“Scrapbook” to me was a voyeuristic view of a sadist serial killer who gets off on documenting his torturous lifestyle in this elaborate scrapbook. Leonard was an abused boy- from his demented sexually deviant sister who convinced him it was ok, to his boy raping father. Seeing such a fucked family life really explains why he does what he does, with an upbringing like that it became his way of life. Inbreds skeeve me and are honestly one on the biggest things on my list of “Things to be deathly afraid of! ”

Watching this movie made my stomach turn and my mind to think of what if this happened to me. Serial killers are not in the same category as Horror to me. Of course everything that is happening is horrible but horror is supposed to be monsters, ghosts, slasher, paranormal thrillers… something scary, not traumatizing. It troubles me to watch it and I had to watch something else right afterwards in order to quiet my mind. I haven’t had a lot of movies do this to me, but “Scrapbook” put my brain in the blender.

Watching Leonard mock Clara for her fits of hysterical crying showed some of his sinister side and that he has no compassion, emotions of guilt, or wrong doing. He enjoys what he does and needs to do it to survive. When Leonard put her in the rubber trash can and taped it shut and left her in it overnight, that made me feel her claustrophobic panic. I could almost feel my lungs burning with the lack of oxygen as I watched her suffer in that tiny confined space.

“Scrapbook” falls into the exploitation genre to the “T” and you will witness brutal rape scenes, sodomy, head games, and the deterioration of Leonard as his mind takes him on this journey filled with hate and obsession. These types of movies are not the thing for me, I end up disturbed from it and thinking about it way more than should.

For those of you with a strong mind, and a love for exploitation flicks however will love this harrowing tale that managers to hit home quite nicely.

  1. I watched this movie and have to say that it did not live up to all the reviews I have read about it. I have seen more gore and violence in regular R rated movies at my local theatre. The sex was cheezy and nowhere near violent. I guess I must have watched the wrong movie cause your review sure wasnt anything like what I just watched.

  2. It probably depends on what you induvidually find haunting and disturbing, Kathy. I for one, whould not choose to see this movie, since I know for a fact I don't enjoy (horror)movies like this. It would probably fuck up my brain. Thank you for a good review, Angry Princess. /d
