smallchalk2Nathan Faudree: From Kottentail to Monkey King – Horror’s Coolest Star. By Brian Kirst

Nathan Faudree is one of the coolest actors working today. If you don’t believe me, just check out www.nathanfaudree.com or watch him in his starring role in the horror -comedy flick Kottentail. See? This is one blood lusting ‘rabbit’ that has got it made! Of course, dude is no one trick hare! Faudree also has a slew of other wickedly wonderful films coming out soon. Bigfoot in Bigfoot and Holler Creek Canyon anyone? The Hunting Season? A Pound of Flesh? The Shrieking? Yeah!! But, until those bloody masterpieces arrive on the viewing canvas, be sure to content yourself with his wild and (sometimes) wooly interview below!

Brian: Who were your first performing influences? – Bill Murray chasing golf destroying gophers – Ghostbusters cartoons – A drunken uncle reciting poetry?

Nathan: One word. Shatner. Watching reruns of Star Trek with my Dad, I just thought he was the coolest. I mean he has a spaceship. He gets the hot green babes, and fights weird looking aliens. What’s not to love?

Brian: You recently played Bigfoot in Bigfoot and Holler Creek Canyon. Cool! Are there any other living legends that you long to bring to celluloid?

Nathan: I think the most obvious answer is Satan himself. In any number of his incarnations, but getting to do something like Tim Curry did in Legend… That would be awesome. Or if they do go ahead with the Hellraiser remake, which I’m not necessarily in favor of, it would be super cool to do Pinhead. Wait, no… Ryan Seacrest. He scares the hell out of me.

Brian: If it truly was worldwide Hunting Season who would be the first to go in your book- Rotting Republicans or Unyielding casting directors?

ezraNathan: I don’t think that all Republicans are evil… Just the ones running the country right now. And the ones running for office, or thinking of running for office. So, I guess, Republicans would have to be my first choice. I love casting directors. They get me jobs. I think they are all lovely examples of what we should all aspire to be. (Is that too much? I don’t want to seem like a brown noser!)

Brian: A Pound of Flesh. It’s a title of movie in which you portrayed a Gothic sounding Ezra Payne and in Chicago, it’s the name of a Nine Inch Nails type band. What chaos would happen if we threw your Ezra Payne into the post industrial age?

Nathan: Ezra Payne actually does live in the post industrial age. But, he’s a back woods cannibal who hasn’t really seen that many people growing up and the one’s that he does… well, he eats. So, bringing Ezra back to civilized society would be like dropping a fat man at an all you can eat buffet… and you’re for dinner.

Brian: Your most high profile role of late has been Hans Kottentail in the viciously entertaining Kottentail. Were the make-up and prosthetics used a help or a hindrance in creating the role?

Nathan: I love working with prosthetics and make up. Once it’s on you, you feel like a completely different person. It liberates you so much and things that you would never do in real life you can do because you are buried so deeply beneath. Plus it’s a lot of fun. That being said… the first time I tried my fake teeth on they got stuck. They were on for about three hours before I started to panic and think that I would have to wear them for the remainder of the shoot. We ended up having to cut them out with a Dremel. That was the scariest bit for me. Having that grinder in my mouth buzzing away reminded me of the worst bits at the dentist’s office.

Brian: What part did you enjoy most taking a bite out of in Kottentail – was there a particular sequence or murder scene that you got the most unbridled joy out of?

Nathan: The basement killing scene is probably my favorite. This is the scene where I got to kill Bridget from E!’s The Girls Next Door. She actually was so nice to work with, and up for anything. Plus the throat wound that the guys from Evolution Effects came up with was really cool.

Brian: How much shrieking does your character Rodney actually do in The Shrieking? Tell us a little bit about him.

two guns

Nathan: Ah Rodney. He actually does quite a bit of it. Rodney was such a fun character to play. He is one of those socially awkward frat boys, who is always hanging around with the cooler guys. He’s kind of thinks that he is cooler than he is, in a funny way. So, when stuff starts to go down…Rodney is the first to panic. The director, Shawn Hunt was really nice about letting me play and improv a little with the character, so he should be pretty funny, but in a real way, not campy.

Brian: You are also credited with doing special make-up effects on The Shrieking. Was this something that you studied or have you just picked it up from the various sets that you’ve been on?

Nathan: I actually took a few classes on Theatrical Make-Up in college. Which just gave me the foundation of light and shadow and how to play with that on the face to achieve an effect, and then the rest has been just doing stuff on various different sets. I started on one movie set as an actor and when it got time for an effect they were just going to throw a whole bunch of blood for a wound. So, I asked them to let me give it a shot. I had fun and they were impressed, so, I continue to help out on other sets when ever I get the chance.

Brian: You were recently named best horror stud (or something to that effect) by Debbie Rochon and Fangoria radio. What feature titles do you aspire to? Best anchovy pizza maker? Best javelin throwing dancer?

Nathan: Yes, the Scream King contest – I can’t in good conscience call it the Horror Hunk contest. All though I did keep screwing up and calling myself a Scream Queen. What other titles? I definitely am shooting for "The Next Bruce Campbell". That would be good. Oh, I know, I want to be "The Monkey King". That’s much better.

Brian: Lastly, any words of wisdom (IE: Never trust the Easter Bunny when he’s got a bloodied arm in his mouth) that you’d like to leave us with or future projects that you’d like to tell us about? And thanks – this has really raised our hackles up high!!!

Nathan: Words of Wisdom….hm…Well, I once told my girlfriend, Anna Bridgforth (The Screening), that I would eat anything if it was flavored like bacon. She in turn, went out and found some packaged bacon and cheddar flavored crickets to call my bluff. I ate them and I guess the moral of the story is… everything tastes good with bacon. I’ve got a bunch of movies coming out this year in which I cameo. The Shrieking should be coming out later this year or early next year. I’m also working on writing a horror novel in my spare time. Just keep checking my website. www.NathanFaudree.com Thanks! And keep those hackles up high!
