Interview with Rob Rotten Director of Porn Of The Dead

by LM Campbell

Rob. You are the director of the film Porn Of The Dead (POTD). Let’s hear some details…

As a huge zombie/horror movie fan I knew someone had to make a “real” zombie porn movie with tons of gore, blood, and sex. I had been pitching a zombie porn movie to tons of companies over the last three years and every one of them turned me down and said I was crazy. Hustler told me that I could shoot it for them, but I couldn’t have blood, gore, or sex with people who appeared to be dead or undead, so I told them to get fucked. Finally, Metro Studio’s, a major porn company, asked me to shoot a few movies for them. The first movie that I shot for them was called Fuck the System, a punk rock themed movie featuring hot punk rock chicks, Rancid and about ten other punk bands on the soundtrack. As soon as I finished Fuck the System, I pitched them Porn of the Dead. Much to my surprise, they okayed the movie and told me to do whatever I wanted. That day I began on the pre-production by first calling my good friend Joe Castro for the special effects and make-up. I had one month to prepare for Porn of the Dead. I booked my crew, cast, and locations. Porn of the Dead is made up of five disturbing vignettes. Each scene/vignette is completely different but they all involve zombies and sex. I am not going to give you guys the scene break down; you will have to see the movie for that.

Is POTD a horror film with sex or is it a porn film with elements of horror?

Well since Porn of the Dead is made up of five vignettes instead of one complete story-line, I would have to say that it is more a porn movie with elements of horror, but fuck… It could go either way because I really don’t believe that anything like this has ever been shot for the legitimate porn industry. I will have to leave that up to you to decide.

When I interviewed David Quitmeyer, the director of Slaughter Disc, he wanted to distance himself and his film from being called ‘pornographic horror’ (are you familiar with him and Slaughter Disc?) – yet you appear to rebel and embrace the porn industry simultaneously. Is it really such a bad place to work?

Yea I have heard of him, you know what gets me is everyone talks shit about porn and then they all go home and jerk off to it. The porn industry isn’t half as sleazy and shady as all of the mainstream shit. The porn industry is a great place to work. I have met some of my best friends and some of the most brilliant people in that industry. It’s weird, it’s like a small family, and I guess it works because in truth we are all social misfits in our own ways. The down side to the porn industry is that not many companies want to evolve. They have a system, blondes with big tits wearing pink, that has made them money and they are unwilling to accept any new ideas. I really commend Metro Studios for believing in me and letting me shoot “Porn of the Dead” for them because it is so unlike anything ever released in porn. Back to David Quitmeyer, I think what he does is pornographic, but he is too much of a pussy to admit it or maybe he doesn’t want to deal with the legalities. Nevertheless when there is full nudity there is porn, it’s really that simple. I do rebel and embrace the porn industry simultaneously. I am not planning on leaving porn, so since I am there I am going to challenge it to evolve.

America is a country whose values are completely fucked. A great timely example is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. That particular game allows you to kill cops and batter their corpse into a pulpy mash so you can roll around in their blood – and no one had any problem with that imagery. However, once it was discovered that an on-line patch could connect you to a small clip of animated sex act, people became outraged and felt the need to ‘protect the children’ from filth. Are you not concerned about the
repercussions of combining extreme violence and hardcore sex?

Great question, damn… You know Porn of the Dead is an adult movie, with adult content, made for adults who want to see it. No one is going to be forcing this down people’s throats like that Girl’s Gone Wild shit on the TV commercials. There is violence, sex, blood, and gore in Porn of the Dead, but it’s a fucking zombie movie, would you expect anything less. Fuck ‘em all and eat their intestines.

Fuck ’em all – and then eat their intestines! Do all of the sex scenes end in violence, or does violence precede the fuckin’?

No, there is violence through out most of the scenes, beginning, middle, and end. They are all so different and I am trying not to give too much away right now.

Is there a lot of screaming? – And I don’t mean the usual ‘fuck my plane-hangar of an ass!’ or ‘spelunk into my vast, craterous cunt!’

Yea, there is a lot of screaming. Screams of horror and of pleasure, but more on the horror side. Guys screaming as zombie chicks disembowel them, bite of their cocks, or tear out their hearts. Yea its gonna be good…

What do you derive more satisfaction from: seeing a woman eaten to orgasm or eaten to extinction?

I gotta be careful answering this one… I would have to say eaten to orgasm, but in Porn of the Dead there are zombie chicks and zombie guys. So there is violence from both sexes, to both sexes, so it kinda balances out in the end.

In DeSade’s 120 Days In Sodom he wrote of the ‘night of 100 orgasms’ whereby they would hold a girl down and eat her all night until she died or had 100 orgasms. Perhaps you could implement this in the sequel?

That’s a good one, but you can’t kill a chick by making her cum 100 times… I do have the sequel already in the works with possibly a rated NC-17 version released before the hardcore porn version…

Could a fucking idiot like myself watch Porn Of The Dead and judge it to be an allegory for the entire porn industry? You know – mindless, zombified whores feasting on what comes out of men, and doing so only to satisfy an audience of jerk-offs who are always demanding more and more extreme images?

A lot of people were asking me if Porn of the Dead had a deeper meaning or a statement to make about the adult industry. The answer is no. Believe it or not it’s just a zombie porn movie with tons of gore.

I am glad that you said that because when people make something unusual or subversive they try and hide behind metaphor or claim it has a greater meaning. They feel they need to defend their work by making it above what it really is – perverse entertainment…

That’s another great question… People in general are insecure about everything from what they say to how they look, it’s really nothing more than an extension of that. I don’t give a fuck about what people think, say, or do. I am not trying to hide behind anything or anyone, Porn of the Dead is an all hardcore zombie porn movie with no hidden meanings or metaphors, simply sex, gore, and zombies.

When filming a scene – let’s say that the guy just shot a chunky load of dick-snot into an eager zombie mouth – did you stop filming and prepare for the gore scenes immediately, or were they filmed separately?

(laughing) Yeah, we stopped and prepared for the gore right away…

So I need to ask you this – when a guy is about to splash a zealous mouth with nut-seed, why do so many directors pan to a shot of his face in a rictus of pleasure? Because the last thing I want to see before I shoot my load is some ugly mug, twisted and red crying “I’m gonna cum!”?

I couldn’t agree with you more on this subject. This goes right back to the fact that companies are unwilling to change their “tried and true” systems. That horrible moment in all porn videos, right at the climax of the scene, the camera will pan to some douche-bags ugly ass face and hold there for about one minute right before the pop, really is meant for the “soft-core” “cable TV versions because they cannot show the cum or the penetration. Some how this fucking horrific one minute clip lands its way into every porn video on the market. I try hard to get the editors to cut it from many films, but some how they magically reappear. I have already instructed the editors of “Porn of the Dead” not to use that footage.

Do all zombies have big cocks?

It’s still porn…

Do you think guys like seeing big cocks in pornography because: A)- they want to watch a rolling-pin sized wang do some real damage to cunts and asses -damage that their little wieners could never do (thus bringing out man’s natural equation of sex is violence), or B) – we are all simply latent homosexuals?

Fuck you are cracking me up with these questions. I think there are a bunch of reasons behind the big cock… From the filming stand point, the camera needs to see what’s going on, so the viewer can see what’s going on, and if there was an extremely small cock all the viewer would see is soft-core, which is boring. Referring to “A” in your question, I couldn’t explain that any better than that. That is no doubt a huge factor. Referring to “B” in your question, that could be a factor, but in my mind not as common as part “A”. Now, if all you watched was triple, anal, cream pie movies, it would be safe to say that you are a latent homosexual.

One good thing about the vast amount of pornography available is that it caters to particular tastes. What I mean is that you don’t have to sit through a movie waiting for that one moment where they show the one scene that you are into…

Yeah, gonzo porn has really changed the porn industry. The main problem with gonzo is the quality. A lot of these companies hire the cheapest people known to man so they can increase their profit margin, even though in the long run it will come back to haunt them because they are releasing absolute shit. Most gonzo companies want to release 50 titles a month not leaving any time for filming, editing, or really anything else for that matter. Even though my movies are considered, “high budget gonzo,” they are worlds apart from the “low budget gonzo” talked about above.
