Night Vision Winner

DEAD SNOW WINS THE NIGHT VISIONS AUDIENCE AWARD 2009 IN HELSINKI

The Scandinavian horror comedy phenomenon DEAD SNOW (Dod sno, Norway 2009), directed by Tommy Wirkola, has won the Night Visions Audience Award 2009 at the Night Visions Film Festival in Helsinki, Finland.

Now running in its 13th consecutive year, Night Visions Film Festival is the biggest and the oldest film festival in Finland focusing on horror, fantasy and cult cinema. The Night Visions Audience Award is voted on by festival audiences. The award is given out every year at end of October at the Night Visions Film Festival in Helsinki, Finland.

A total of 16 feature films released between years 2007 and 2009 – and all having their Finnish premiere at the festival – were eligible for the Night Visions Audience Award 2009.  The first runner-up for the award was the twisted drama IT IS FINE! EVERYTHING IS FINE (USA 2007), directed by David Brothers and Crispin Glover. The second runner-up was SUPER TYPHOON (Chao qiang tai feng, China 2008), marketed as “the first super disaster movie of China” by its makers and directed by Xiaoning Feng.

The Night Visions Audience Award is was established in 2008 to increase the recognition of new horror and fantasy cinema in Finland and to improve the availability and distribution of contemporary genre films in the territory. The first winner of the Night Visions Audience Award in October 2008 was James Watkins’ horror thriller EDEN LAKE (UK 2008).

Arranged this year from October 28th to November 1st, 2009, the Night Visions Film Festival also broke a new audience record with a total of 5 000 admissions.
