CHRISTMAS EVIL

Released in 1980 and once again we have an unstable main character who puts on the red suit and beard and gives the naughty what they deserve-and we’re not talking about lumps of coal. Arguably the best of the “Christmas Killer” movies, Christmas Evil should not be missed. This rare screening features a 35mm print from the personal collection of the film’s director.

SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT

Caused a firestorm of controversy upon its release in 1984. The plot concerns a deranged young man who dresses as Santa one Christmas Eve and punishes “naughty” individuals, including the obligatory group of promiscuous teens. Although the film is no more sleazy than the dozens of other slashers prevalent in the early ’80s, Silent Night, Deadly Night outraged many who felt the demonizing of a beloved childhood icon was just going too far. Critics lambasted the movie while protesters showed up at local movie theaters to express their disgust. As a result of the controversy, Silent Night, Deadly Night was pulled from theaters, an act which essentially marked the death knell of the slasher film. Which, in retrospect, maybe wasn’t such a bad thing.

NEW YEARS EVIL

New Year’s Eve is on it’s way and TV’s most famous punk-rock lady icon Diane Sullivan is holding a late hour countdown celebration of music and partying. All is going well until Diane recieves a phone call from a odd sounding stranger announcing on live Television that when New Year’s strikes in each time zone, a ‘Naughty Girl’ will be murdered (punished), and the killer leaves a threat saying she will be the one to die last. The studio crew takes precautions and heighten security, but on the other side of America, a hospital nurse is found brutally butchered. Who could be behind these murders? A crazed fan, a religious psychotic, or perhaps it’s someone much closer to Diane then the police (or audience) could have ever expected.

Dir. Emmett Alston / USA / 1980 / DVD / 90 min. / Color

BLACK SANTA’S REVENGE

Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, The Devil’s Rejects, From Beyond) stars in this epic short film based on the popular comic book story that appeared in the pages of BadAzz MoFo magazine.

Written, produced and directed by BadAzz MoFo creator David Walker, BLACK SANTA’S REVENGE is a two-fisted tale of yuletide vengeance reminiscent of the classic blaxploitation and revenge films of the 1970s and 80s—think William Lustig’s Vigilante meets Ivan Dixon’s Trouble Man. Adapted from the short comic book story drawn by Rusty Beach and written by Walker, the film version of BSR is filled with all the classic elements of exploitation cinema—graphic violence, gratuitous nudity, and tons of profanity—all crammed into a 20-minute running time.

Dir. David F. Walker / USA / 2007 / DVD / 20 min. / Color
