NOES Dream Warrior Ken Sagoes

Interview with Ken Sagoes
Interview by Maggie Roberge

Ken Sagoes is a writer/actor living in L.A. who is most well-known for his role as Roland Kincaid in Nightmare on Elm Street movies 3 and 4, Dream Warriors and Dream Master. As of now, Ken has written an original novel called Latch of the Shadow. Ken spends most of his time now running a charity program called GBC-the Giving Back Corporation, which helps adolescents contribute to the community and have positive outlooks for themselves and others.

Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors

I first asked Ken how he became an actor

Ken attended Kennesaw College, (which is now Kennesaw State University) where his major was drama. He moved on to learn about writing and directing at UCLA (not as a full time student, but under the UCLA Extension program). He was also fortunate enough to be taught by Marlon Brando in a workshop and at Crossroads Academy under Edmund J. Cambridge.

How did he get cast in Nightmare Warriors?

His agent told him about the audition for the film. When he went there were no specific things for him to do, so he just did whatever he wanted to. The scene they used for the audition was the first famous group scene where the Elm Street kids were introducing themselves. They went through over 50 different actors for the role of Kincaid, and finally Ken was chosen.

What does he think of horror conventions?

Ken has a lot of fun at the conventions he attends, while at the same time takes care of business. There have been one or two that were not that much fun, but overall he has good experiences. He enjoys meeting all his fans and says they’re what make conventions great.

“Latch of the Shadow”

What inspired him to write it?

First of all, Ken was a writer before he became an actor. He has already written 14 plays and more than 35 screenplays, so writing a “scriptnovel” is nothing new to him. For the main villain in Latch of the Shadow, he was inspired by looking at is own shadow one day. He thought about how a shadow always follows you, and how it could potentially be in control of you. So, this led to Ken writing his book, where he wanted the villain to be essentially like the classic villains such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, all rolled into one. He wanted it to have “old school flavor” with “new school twist.

Latch of the Shadow is not available in stores. It is available for purchase on The Sagoes Company website https://www.thesagoescompany.com where he will personally sign each copy ordered. All proceeds from the book sales go to GBC.
