Fingerprints stars Leah Pipes, Kristin Cavallari, Josh Henderson,Andrew Lawrence and Lou Diamond Phillips. Released in 2006, Fingerprints is about a young woman fresh out of rehab who moves back in with her parents and sister. She soon becomes involved in a mystery that has left the people in her town paralyzed.

The movie opens with a flashback scene – a school bus full of children riding along on a rainy night. As they approach the railroad tracks, we see their parents waiting for them but soon realize that the bus driver doesn‘t know a train is heading her way. Even though the parents try to warn the driver, it collides with the train killing everyone.

Moving to the present, we see two girls riding along in a car. They are sisters – Melanie and Crystal. Melanie has just been released from rehab and Crystal is driving her to their new home. Crystal tells Melanie about the legend of their town – the bus driver and children killed by a train. Crystal tell Melanie that the legend is that the spirit of the children killed will push your car across the tracks if you stop before them and put your car in neutral. When the girl reach the tracks, Crystal puts the car in neutral and they wait for something to happen but before they can experience anything mystical, a semi honks at them and spoils the moment.

The girls arrive at the house and Melanie has a very awkward reunion with her mother. At dinner that evening, Melanie‘s mother acts bitchy and tells her that “idle hands are the devils playground.“ Melanie runs from the table and back to her room. That evening Crystal takes Melanie to a party. There she meets Mitch and Penn. The four decide to drive back to the train tracks. Mitch drives onto the tracks but a train is coming. Even though the other three scream at him to get off the tracks, he doesn‘t move until it‘s almost too late.

On Melanie‘s first day back to school, she meets Doug, the school‘s counselor. It seems Melanie‘s parents have informed Doug on Melanie‘s past. Naturally Doug buys what her parents have told him thus automatically creating a distrust from the start. After school, Melanie drives home, and as she passes the train tracks, she sees a little girl walking along them. She offers the girl, Julie, a ride home.

The following day, Melanie walks home from school past the train tracks. As she passes the train station, she decides to investigate a little but is chased by a shadowy figure in a train conductor‘s uniform. She escapes the clutches of the conductor but Mitch has followed her and attacks and almost rapes her. When Melanie escapes from Mitch, he has to settle for a local town girl as a date for the night. Parking by the train tracks, Mitch and his date are attacked and killed by the mysterious train conductor.

The next day while in gym class, Melanie is climbing on a rope when she sees the name Andrew Pearl written in blood on the ceiling. She falls banging her head. Later when she is telling Doug about her accident, he doesn‘t believe her and admonishes her for believing in the town legend.

Melanie returns to the house where she dropped off Julie. She knocks on the door and an older woman answers the door. Melanie asks if Julie is at home and the older woman denies knowing anyone by the name but soon tells Melanie she had a sister named Julie who died. The woman turn out to be Mary Pearl.

When Melanie returns home, Doug is there. Apparently Doug has told Melanie‘s mothereverything. But when he leaves, he drives to the train tracks and discovers that the legend is true. He calls Melanie but ends up leaving a message since Melanie‘s parents are in the middle of a drug intervention. Melanie freaks out and runs up stairs. While in her room, Melanie has a vision in which Julie tries to reveal events from the past. Melanie freaks out  and Crystal runs into the room to see blood written on her mirror. Meanwhile across town, Doug is in his office finishing up work when he is attacked and killed by the train conductor.

Melanie return to Mary Pearl‘s house to apologize but also to ask about her sister. Mary Pearl is welcoming until Melanie tries to tell her that she has seen her sister and then she‘s asked to leave. Melanie goes to the cemetery to look at the Pearl‘s graves. After making a startling discovery, Melanie falls into an open grave after having another vision. As she pulls herself out of the grave, two police officers are there to escort her to the police station where she is asked about the whereabouts of Mitch since he hasn‘t been seen in several days. When she denies knowing about his disappearance, she‘s accused of giving him drugs. Melanie‘s parents walk in and while they are having a private discussion, Melanie is left in the hall.

While waiting in the hall, Melanie hears the town drunk singing  and goes to ask him what really happened to the children since the town drunk, Mr. Keeler is also the former mayor. He confesses that the bus accident was a cover story. He said that if the people knew what really happened to the kids it would jeopardize the road development. When the old city council votes to destroy the train depot, Andrew Pearl supposedly snapped and did something to the kids. When the town confronts Mr. Pearl, he doesn‘t talk and is killed. The children were never found.

Melanie sees Julie again who tries to warn her about the impending danger Crystal‘s in.  Melanie burst in on the sheriff and her parents to try to convince them of the impending danger, but they dismiss her. One of the deputies comes in and informs them that Doug‘s body was discovered behind a dumpster. Melanie runs out and her parents chase after her while one of the other deputies checks on Keeler. He discovers that Keeler has hung himself.

As Melanie races back to the house, Crystal is taking a relaxing bubble bath. The train conductor sneak in and electrifies the water with an electronic shock stick until Crystal is unconscious.

When Melanie gets to the house, she can‘t find her sister, but her mother is close behind and grabs her and locks her into her room. Melanie has another vision of Julie and break the window to get out of the house. She drives to the train tracks. The spirit children push the car across and then appears by car. Melanie steps out an grabs Julie‘s hand so she can relive the past. This vision shows the bus driver being killed by Mr. Pearl and driving the bus away.

When Melanie returns from her vision, she sees the spirits of the children running into the station. She follows them inside. Penn sees Melanie’s car and begins searching for her.

Melanie finds Crystal chained in the train station with her mouth stitched closed. She frees her just as the train conductor shows up and attacks with the stun gun. The girls hide a closet and Melanie cuts the stitches loose. Crystal tries to stay calm until Mitch and his date’s bodies are uncovered inside the closet. The girls freak out and the train conductor rushes in and stuns them both.

Penn shows up and tries to help Melanie as she is recovering from being shocked but the train conductor kills in the process. Melanie fights with the train conductor eventually knocking the mask loose to reveal the conductor as Mary Pearl. The two fight some more but Melanie finally gets the upper hand by getting the electric shock stick and jamming into Mary’s mouth. She finds Crystal and the two girls escape from the station. They get back to the car only to discover they don’t have keys. Mary Pearl shows up again and attacks the car with a long metal pole. The girls scream helplessly inside as Mary jams the pole through the windshield and roof. The spirit of the children show up and push the car off the tracks while Mary falls onto them. The children hold her on the tracks as a speeding train approaching and eventually plows into Mary. The girls are safe inside the car but get out when they hear police sirens.

Three years have passed and we another car pulling up to the train tracks. Two girls are inside talking about Melanie, Crystal, their parents and the legend of the tracks. They put their vehicle into neutral and the car is pushed over the tracks. The driver looks into the rear view mirror to see Andrew Pearl sitting in the back seat. The girls scream. ROLL CREDITS.
