Colin Review

Colin is having a bad day. He comes home, not feeling well and no one’s home. Oh wait, someone is home. Unfortunately for Colin, it’s a family member turned zombie who takes a chunk out of sweet Colin immediately.

This is how Colin, the movie, begins. Written and directed by Marc Price, Colin begins without pulling any punches. You know something has happened and you know it has left a zombie infestation in its wake. I was actually a bit hesitant to watch this when I did, considering the crazy zombie-fueled dream of the night before. But I chose to take this as a sign, however, and keep in the zombie frame of mind. Am I glad I did!

Now that Colin is infected, he’s left like the others to wander the streets in a zombie state. His face belies his utter confusion, however, as he sees people trying to fight other zombies off and succumbing to their bite. It makes you wonder who Colin was in his previous life.

What is so genius about Colin is how actor Alastair Kirton portrays the character. This is not a dialogue-fueled film. It’s blood and guts and screaming. But it’s what is in Kirton’s face as he stumbles throughout the desolate town that tells the tale of this movie. You see who Colin was as a human and the battle inside that is taking place as that human refuses to die.

Don’t worry—there is enough gore to keep zombie lovers happy (even a zombie eating its own intestines). There also is a storyline that is heartfelt as Colin’s own sister (played by Daisy Aitkens) tries bring the human back out of her brother.  As a viewer, you begin to have that hope that zombie Colin will revert back to the man he once was, even though as enthusiasts will note, that is impossible and has never been done in any zombie movie.

Colin truly is a heartfelt zombie movie. Who knew that was even possible?
