Science of Horror Film Festival to Spotlight Women in Horror

Vera Varlamova was kind enough to send me a brief about an upcoming film festival. DecadesOut and EdibleBrains Productions will be hosting the first International Science of Horror Film Festival. The goal of this particular film festival is to highlight the role of women in horror film and the science  of filmmaking process.

“Our joint mission with the festival is to examine how science naturally informs and enriches the science fiction and horror genres, as well as promote free thought and dialogue between science and society. EBP is dedicated to exploring work that expands awareness and encourages the advancement of the female perspective, which dovetails neatly with our concentration on exploring global viewpoints by working with artists from diverse backgrounds.” – Frank Kuzler, executive director of DecadesOut

The Science of Horror Film Festival will be accepting entries for the film festival up until April 15, 2011. The date of the festival itself will be May 13, 2011. Submissions must be under 25 minutes long. Submissions must have a connection to science or horror. Submissions must also have women included in the production of the film, whether it be directing, producer, writer, make up, special effects, etc. Any entries must be submitted online, by clicking here. The entry fee for films is $25 per film, $15 if you’re a student filmmaker.

Also included in the film festival will be five awards – “Excellence In Science,” “Excellence In Horror,” “Best Student Film,” “Audience Favorite,” and “Best of Fest – The Science of Horror Award.” Winning films will be announced April 22, 2011. There is even an opportunity for winning films to earn cash prizes of up to $500. More details about awards can be found here.

Remember, entries are due by April 15, 2011. The actual film festival will take place May 13, 2011 at the 3-Legged Dog Art & Technology Center in lower Manhattan, New York. Any questions about the Science of Horror Film Festival can be asked here
