Forget Me Not Review

The only line I can remember from Forget Me Not is, “I’m not a pussy…I’m a pirate!” The only actress I can remember is Carly Shroeder, who could be a long-lost twin of Sara Paxton. The ghost looks surprisingly like that big, grasshopper looking monster from Legion all wrapped up in blue and brown duck tape. I’m being knit picky, but I do have to say Forget Me Not wasn’t bad, it was actually kind of good. Its production value is really high for a budget of only $1,300,000 and the film has a lot of well thought out plot twists that make sense. Let me break it down for you. Let’s start with the plot.

“It’s graduation weekend, and Sandy Channing, the popular class president of her small-town high school, should be enjoying the time of her life. But when her friends start disappearing, Sandy discovers they have unwittingly awakened the vengeful spirit of a girl they wronged long ago. Fighting for her sanity, Sandy must unlock a dark secret from her own past before it’s too late.”

Forget Me Not doesn’t contain all the normal horror stereotyped characters, except for the whores and the jock. But, none of the characters except 3 (out of 12) have any type of redeemable qualities to them that make you want them to survive. I watched the film going, “get em!” Everyone was pretty much cannon fodder. And they all died in not-to-violent ways. Forget Me Not is Rated R for violence, drug/alcohol, sex and language. I really think that Rated M (for mature) should be applied to films, just like video games. Forget Me Not should be PG-13, but nowhere near Rated R. Gore lovers will be yawning throughout this film as there is very little blood and guts.

At the beginning of this review I mentioned plot twists and this film has about three., but they do all make sense. It took me a while to figure them out, but then again, I’m not the brightest tool in the shed. Forget Me Not is almost like a newer, hipper version of The Grudge. So, the writer and director, Tyler Oliver, took an idea that has already been done to death and added a couple new spins to it. You can’t really call Forget Me Not a rip off because it does contain a lot of original elements. The only thing not explained in the film happens at the very end, but this could be to either leave it up to the imagination of the viewer or to leave it open for a sequel. Being that Forget Me Not came out in 2009, I’d say the latter option is the wrong choice here.

I would recommend Forget Me Not to horror fans because it is interesting. As I said, not very gorey and the characters suck for the most part, but the script and mystery kept it from bombing. It’s currently available in RedBoxs for $1.07 a night so go check it out!
