Some initial cast and crew announcements are coming in on Circus of Dread. Australian director Mark Savage will helm this horror production. Savage has a background in horror short filmmaking. Actors Bill Oberst Jr. (Scary or Die) and Domiziano Arcangeli (House of Flesh Mannequins) have also been attached. Both actors have appeared in dozens of horror films with Oberst Jr. often referred to as “the Scariest Man in Horror!”
Circus of Dread is inspired by a number of films. Tod Browning’s 1932 Freaks is one such inspiration. And Savage says of influences: “I think the old appetite for the circus and associated ‘freakery’ remains, and is perhaps becoming even more popular as popular culture evolves and becomes more bizarrre,” states Savage. “The circus freak is the side of ourselves we fear.” The dark side of the carnival and the beginnings of horror in film will be shown in Circus of Dread with more details to come soon.
