The time has come for all monster-loving adults to no longer feel shame in their desire to buy LEGO® sets. We see them in the store, sigh and say to ourselves, “No, no, I’m a grown-up now.” But, what if those blocks happen to be designed as The Mummy, The Swamp Creature, or a freaking hearse?! What classic horror fan could pass that up – whatever their age may be? This is no longer wasting money on kids’ toys. This falls into the category of the passionate collector! (Great excuse, right?)
LEGO® has announced their Monster Fighters theme, and horror fans young and old couldn’t be happier. Each set includes a Moon Stone, as the monsters plan on collecting all in order to unleash ultimate doom upon the earth. Technically, Lord Vampyre wants to keep all the Moon Stones to himself for proper doom control. Rodney Rathbone has organized a team of monster fighters to retrieve these stones back from the evil ones before all hell breaks loose. Each set also contains a vehicle of some sort. The coolest one is the Vampyre hearse, which is driven by a zombie driver. The Swamp Creature comes with a swamp boat, two missiles and even a slimy-looking marsh. This is the cheapest set, but will also sell quickly because the Creature has a very cool design. There is a fun Werewolf set, too.
The Zombie set contains two graves, a pavillion, Jack McHammer’s car, a glow-in-the-dark spider, and four characters including the zombie driver, Jack McHammer, the Zombie Bride and Zombie Groom. This set isn’t listed on the store page, but it’s not June just yet, so keep checking around for this set to pop up.
Of course, the favorite may be “The Crazy Scientist & His Monster,” for all the Frankenstein fans out there. The set comes with the laboratory, a lab prison cell, Moon Stone, and four characters, which includes Frankenstein’s monster! There’s a “Ghost Train” set that includes a very bony, skeletal-looking train, an airplane, some fighters and three ghosts!
Finally, priced at $100, is the “Vampyre Castle,” which is beyond cool and contains 956 pieces! You’ll get a badass car built for war against monsters, Dr. Rodney Rathbone, Jack McHammer, Lord Vampyre, Vampyre Bride, a skeleton, and two really sweet bat monsters. The castle itself is astounding. Hinged gate entrance, multiple towers, a study room with a desk holding books and a lit candle, stairwells, various compartments, a pipe organ on the roof, and glow-in-the-dark spiders crawling the exterior! The characters are quite detailed, as well. For instance, the Vampyre Bride has a bodice, a dark red ripped dress, a black necklace with a blood-red drop-shaped crystal, fangs, pink lipstick, eye shadow, thin eyebrows, long black hair, and a double-sided white face – one snarling, the other smiling.
