Ashley Tisdale to replace Anna Farris in ‘Scary Movie 5’

My how the mighty have fallen. Just a few short years ago, Ashley Tisdale was in the top 10 Maxim hotties, was on multiple gold records, and starring on two hit shows on Disney Channel and CW. Now, she’s going to be the leading lady in the upcoming horror-spoof comedy, Scary Movie 5. I think my gripe here is more so with the Scary Movie franchise than with Ashley Tisdale herself. She’s probably a wonderful girl, but in my opinion the Scary Movie franchise has gotten worse and worse after the second film.

It is unknown whether Ashley Tisdale will take over the role of “Cindy Campbell,” which was played by Anna Farris, or if she will star in Scary Movie 5 as a brand new character. Franchise characters Regina Hall “Brenda” and Anthony Anderson “Mahalik” are rumored to appear along with Tisdale and Erica Ash (“Big Gay Sketch Show” and “Mad TV”). Scary Movie 5 is being directed by Malcolm D. Lee and is also written by Lee and David Zucker. Dimension Films is hoping for a January 13, 2013 release date.

The concept of Scary Movie 5 will be primarily focused on spoofing Black Swan, with elements from Paranormal Activity, Final Destination, and Child’s Play mixed in. IMDB summarizes the plot as, “Snooty, aloof, imperious, and over sexed French dance company director Pierre is putting on a new production. Jody, a Caucasian late-20s mother of two and her late-20s African-American friend Kendra are both vying for the lead in the production. Jody’s extremely controlling former dancer mother is determined that Jody will have the brilliant career that eluded her. The highly skilled mid-30s Diva veteran dancer with the company, Heather Daltry, gets cut from the production and goes berserk.”
