If you grew up during the MTV reality-generation like I did, then you’re familiar with the never-ending reality show “The Real World.” In 2008 Joey Kovar was cast in “The Real World: Hollywood” and was rocketed to superstardom over night. That kind of fame was short-lived because – as detailed in the show – Joey was suffering from an addiction to alcohol and drugs. He left the show prematurely to enter rehab, but did return for the reunion show. Two years later he appeared on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” in another attempt to regain his sobriety. This attempt seemed to stick and Joey was ready to get his life back on track.
One of Joey Kovar’s main accomplishments post-addiction is joining with Muscle Wolf Productions. By now you know that Muscle Wolf Productions and everyone involved are dear friends of ours here at Horror Society. The company, ran by Marv Blauvelt and Jared Degado, injects gore, nudity, comedy, “beef,” and most importantly originality into the horror genre, especially in the form of their first anthology, Psycho Street.While Joey Kovar did not appear in Psycho Street, he was to be involved in another reality series, “Hunks of Horror,” which would detail all of Muscle Wolf’s current activities and their rise to fame. Joey was also scheduled to make several horror film convention appearances with the gang.
Did you know Joey was also an actor? He did have a very minor role in 2007’s Alone: Without A Friend In The World. However, after joining Muscle Wolf, he was cast in Patrick Desmond’s film, Closed Casket, and in a Muscle Wolf original, God’s Right Hand.
Before anyone calls Joey any hateful or hurtful words, it is a major point that I must make that his death is not believed to be from street drugs. More-so it is believed his body gave out due to mixing medications to deal with anxiety issues and depression. And before you question his character, you should know, “Joey was full of charm and personality and he was an amazing person. My thoughts are with Marv, Jared, Joey’s family and friends, and the rest of Muscle Wolf Productions during this very difficult time. Hang in there, guys. Joey’s soul awaits a new destiny.
