My heart is pounding against my chest. A axe wielding maniac is chasing after me in the dead of the night. Of course, in the woods where I’m out of my comfort zone. Would I stay and I try to hold my ground or would I run? The chances for survial either way are probably minimal.

For Erin Marie Hogan (#HoldYourBreath) who is one of the stars of the upcoming throwback 80s slasher film The Axeman at Cutter’s Creek playing the role of Liz, the choice is simple, ” I’d stop him (or try). ”

The AxeMan at Cutter’s Creek which will be debuting select scenes at HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio, and who just recently dropped their first bloody teaser trailer. Erin took some time out of her schedule to talk about the film. Her answer’s might surprise you.

Horror Society: Now that the dust is settled, and the experience is over, what are some of your scariest memories from being on set of the AxeMan at Cutter’s Creek?

Erin Marie Hogan: I had a great time shoot Axeman. There wasn’t much scary about it because it was so controlled. When we had to shoot outside at night though, THAT was scary.

HS: Now an easy question, what is your all-time favorite horror film growing up?

EMH: My first horror movies I ever remember watching were Poltergeist and IT, but my favorite horror movie is Candyman.

HS: What do you think makes a great horror film – atmosphere vs. blood and gore?

EMH: Sound design! Sound and editing are ALWAYS overlooked and they are so, so, so important! You can’t slack on editing and sound, what you see is much less important than what you hear.

HS: You play the role of Liz in the film, what can you tell us about your character and much trouble does she get herself into?

EMH: Liz is like the audience, sitting inside the film. My goal because of that was to make her as likable and relate-able as possible. She and her girlfriend Tammy seem to be the happiest of the group, and also (I love you all) the smartest!

HS: A lot of time on indie sets everyone becomes a really tight family, did this happen on Axeman at Cutter’s Creek and how hard was it to say goodbye once the film was wrapped?

EMH: I wrapped in the middle of the night so lots of people were asleep when I left! But the girls all became extremely close, as well as with Joston (the director and co-star). These are some great friends of mine now.

HS: The Axeman at Cutter Creek promises to be a 80s throwback to slasher films that we all love! What was it that attracted you to this project?

EMH: The money, no I’m kidding. I love horror movies, period, and I think Liz is a great character I haven’t gotten to explore before.

HS: What can the fans expect from the Axeman at Cutter’s Creek? How scared will we be?

EMH: We have some really creative deaths going on, and some very well fleshed out characters. If you’re scared of crazy serial killers… you’ll be scared!

HS: What is it that you think fans love about this sub-genre of horror “slasher” films that keep us wanting more?

IEMH: think fans enjoy a bit cheesiness. It’s fun, and the slasher films are the ones that show you the gore! It’s a fun, scary time!

HS: You may not be able to tell us, but I’m going to ask: What was the one scene in the film that you were the most excited about filming or on the other hand not excited about filming?

EMH: Well, I’m never excited to shoot in the cold, that’s for sure, but that’s all I can say!

HS: There’s an Axe-Wielding Maniac on the loose – do you A. (Run for your life) or B. (Try to put a stop to the man that is after you?)

EMH: I’d stop him (or try). I was there shooting, I’ve seen the terrain, I’d never get away anyway. I wouldn’t know where to go!

HS: I’m a huge twitter fan, so I’ve got to ask are there any #awkwardmoments when your character realizes that she may or may not be standing In her own friends blood?

EMH: You’ll just have to watch to find that out!

HS: Okay now a serious question, what was it like working with Joston Theney are there any funny moments you would like to share?

EMH: Oh Joston, my favorite moment with Joston was probably when he stayed up driving way out into town to buy the girls on set tampons! He didn’t really know what to get (obviously) and came back with a few different things, but he got what was needed! We thought it was hilarious and sweet, but I won’t tell you which girls sent him out to the store.

HS My last and final question, I promise – Is there anything that I forgot that you’re just dying to tell the readers about this film or about any upcoming projects that you’re apart of?

EMH: Yes! Rent #HoldYourBreath! It is now available on Redbox, On Demand, iTunes, Netflix, Blockbuster and it available for sale at places like Walmart and Amazon! But from what I hear, it’s currently sold out!
