Judy Greer To Play an Ape in ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’

Planet of the Apes image 2We haven’t had any recent casting new lately for the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes upcoming film.  Today though, we received word that actress Judy Greer (The Descendants) has signed on for the film, but we will never see her face.

Vulture is reporting that Judy Greer will be playing the role of Cornelia, a chimp who is the love interest of Caesar (Andy Sirkis).  Greer will be donning a motion capture suit in order to play the role.

Greer will join the already cast Gary Oldman, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, and Andy Serkis.

Greer had this to say about the role, “For so long I haven’t been able to say anything about it, so this is exciting!” Greer gushed when I talked to her last night. Cornelia was briefly introduced in the first film (where she was played by dancer Devyn Dalton) as a potential love interest to Andy Serkis’s lead ape Caesar, but the role will be expanded in the Matt Reeves–directed sequel, which has already enlisted Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, and Gary Oldman to play some of the new human characters. “It’s a very different kind of work than I’m used to,” admitted Greer. “I’m not going to be wearing Manolo Blahniks in this one.”

Look for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to hit theaters on May 23, 2014.

Produced by Chernin Entertainment, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” is set in an apocalyptic future more than a decade after “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which grossed nearly $500 million worldwide. Script is penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
