Universal’s ‘Dracula’ Film Gets a Release Date

Dracula image 10We brought you news a few weeks ago about Universal Studios’ upcoming Dracula film formerly called Dracula: Year Zero, now just Dracula.  We now have word on an official release date for the film, the studio has set an August 8, 2014 date for the vampire chiller.

Deadline is reporting, Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6) stars in Dracula, about Prince Vlad, the man who would become the mythological bloodsucker. Gary Shore came aboard as director more than a year ago after the studio scrapped the film because of budget concerns.

Universal has set an August 8, 2014 release. That puts it alone for now on the date but comes a week after Disney’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.

The story is a mix of mythology and true history as it follows the story of Prince Vlad, the inspiration for the Dracula character popularized by the Bram Stoker novel.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the latest draft of the script. Vice President of Production Anikah McLaren and Creative Executive Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for Universal.

Though The Wolf man didn ‘t generate the kind of box office the studio had hoped for, U is still looking to tap its large library of horror classics and reimagine them for contemporary audiences.
