Behind The Scenes: Horror Movies

Did you know…?

The Exorcist (1973) – Audrey Hepburn was William Friedkin’s first choice to play the role of Chris MacNeil, and Warner Brothers supported him because of her good critical/commercial reputation with the studio, but she only agreed to do it if it was filmed in Rome.

When A Stranger Calls (1979) – Star Tony Beckley was terminally ill throughout the production and passed away just after the principle photography was shot. Director Fred Walton dedicated the film’s 1993 sequel ‘When A Stranger Calls Back’ to the memory of Beckley.

The Shining (1980) – Neither Lia Beldam (young woman in bath) nor Billie Gibson (old woman in bath) appeared in another movie before or after this one.

Creepshow (1982) – Rice Krispies were used as maggots on the corpse’s eyes in the first story, “Father’s Day”. In addition, real maggots were also utilized.

Creepozoids (1987) – The opening sequence with the group of survivors walking along the railroad tracks was shot in downtown Los Angeles without a permit.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) – The fate of Nancy (Jennifer Esposito) and Karla (Brandy Norwood), in the scene where they retrieve the first aid kit, initially was reversed with Karla dying and Nancy surviving.

Scream 3 (2000) – The house used during the climax, where most of the killing takes place, is the same house used as a school in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later.

Seed of Chucky (2004) – The wife of the man Tiffany calls to apologize to is the widow of the cop she killed at the beginning of Bride of Chucky.

Hostel (2005) – Over 150 gallons of blood were used in the making of the movie, nearly three times the amount used on Eli Roth’s first film Cabin Fever.
