R.I.P. Richard Matheson – legendary genre writer passes away.

Richard_MathesonIt’s with great sadness that I must report that writer Richard Matheson has passed away. The legend was 87-years-old. His daughter posted the announcement on her Facebook page:

“My beloved father passed away yesterday [June 23, 2013] at home surrounded by the people and things he loved…he was funny, brilliant, loving, generous, kind, creative, and the most wonderful father ever…I miss you and love you forever Pop and I know you are now happy and healthy in a beautiful place full of love and joy you always knew was there…”

Richard Matheson was one of the most recognized horror and scifi writers of our time. His enormous resume included credits on films such as The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), House of Usher (1960), Pit and the Pendulum (1961), “Twilight Zone: The Series” (1959-1964), Die! Die! My Darling! (1965), The Omega Man (1971), The Legend of Hell House (1973), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1974), Jaws 3D (1983), I Am Legend (2007), and Real Steel (2011).

Matheson was a Hugo Award, Fangoria Chainsaw Award, Edgar Allen Poe Award, Bram Stoker Award, and Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA Award winner.
