Fantasia 2013: ‘The Demon’s Rook’ Bloody New Pics & Trailer!

Indie film The Demon’s Rook will be having its world premiere during the Fantasia International Film Festival this July 18th-August 6th in Montreal, Canada.  There were some bloody great pics released today we would love to share with you guys.  I’ve been waiting to see this creature feature for quite some time now mainly due to it’s practical effects wizardry by writer/director/producer/actor/make up FX artist James Sizemore.  Read on for more details and pics.

The Demon’s Rook is written by James Sizemore and Akom Tidwell, directed by James Sizemore.  It stars James Sizemore, Ashleigh Jo Sizemore, John Chatham, Melanie Richardson, Josh Adam Gould, Sade Smith and Dustin Dorough.

A glimmering gem in a sea of low-budget splatter, THE DEMON’S ROOK is flat-out unlike anything previously put to film — a mindbending tour de force of DIY filmmaking that delivers in spades what films ten times its budget cannot. The fever dreams of Lucio Fulci collide with ’80s creature features in this surreal horror/fantasy.

A low-budget orgy of grue that can only be described as RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD by way of Jodorowsky, having lensed the entire head-scratching fantasy in his native Georgia and employing a nearly all-amateur cast and crew. The results, however, are astounding — with all manner of throat-ripping, head-smashing, and limb-severing from the self-taught Sizemore (who also handled a large majority of the film’s ample effects) and his band of skillful Southerners. And thanks to a helping hand from to Ultra 8 executive producers (and TIFF superheroes) Colin Geddes and Katarina Gligorijevic, the finished product is polished and tight, while still feeling as indie as a feature can get.

Featuring supernatural mind melds, fog-drenched weirdness, and naked women with blood oozing from their gaping eyes, THE DEMON’S ROOK is the sort of surreal cinematic oddity that will set your head spinning while simultaneously blowing your mind with its unabashed devotion to bucking the studio system and keeping things gleefully odd.

Plot Synopsis

A young boy named Roscoe finds a portal to another world, where he is taught magic by an elder demon known as Dimwos. Dimwos raises the boy into manhood, revealing to him many secrets, though there is one dark secret that Dimwos keeps from Roscoe. When Roscoe discovers what his master has been keeping from him all these years, he revolts against him, inadvertently unleashing three malevolent demons. Through desperation, Roscoe is forced to escape the demons’ wrath by way of the portal leading back to our world.

Unbeknownst to Roscoe, he leads the demons to discover the portal for themselves. Once the demons pass through, a nightmarish foray of summoned monsters is unleashed. One demon possesses the minds and will of all whom she crosses, another transforms a man into a murderous beast, and the other summons an army of the dead to do his bidding!
