Director Eamon Hardiman Discusses Pig Girl in this Greasy Interview!

Director Eamon Hardiman is no stranger to Horror Society and I am pretty sure I have typed his name lately more than I have my own.  Hardiman, the director behind the Porkchop trilogy and Zombie Babies, just recently revealed that he will be directing a spin-off slasher film starring the piglet princess, Pig Girl.  With the news of the film came the indiegogo campaign where Hardiman it looking for slasher fans to donate to the film so they can get some really great incentives.  Those with the extra cash can donate to the film here.

I was able to speak with Hardiman about the upcoming film and this is what all he had to say about the project.

Pig Girl has become a popular character that is almost as iconic as Porkchop himself. When you created the character did you expect the fans to react to her the way they did?

Not on the page or in the conceptual stage, but after seeing Missy in the costume the first time I knew we had something really great. Porkchop will always be my first love, but Pig Girl is my 3AM booty call. Seeing fans freak out over her is AWESOME. People think Porkchop is cool, but people are freaked the hell out by Pig Girl, in a very good way!

Speaking of Missy Dawn. When you created the character did you have her in mind to portray Pig Girl?

Yes, I think that was the intent from the beginning. Missy was almost going to play Meg in Porkchop II and we talked about giving her a killer role all along. She’d always said it was something she would enjoy – the physical aspect of it. We talked about the body language of movie killers, the backstory of Pig Girl, and then she ran with it and made it her own – this creepy, mute, shambling thing that still has a childhood innocence and girlishness about her but it comes out in rather grisly ways.  The part was basically written for Missy as a kind of playground for her to run around in.

How are you going to make the film Pig Girl stand out when compared to the Porkchop trilogy?

Our plan is to not try to at all. Porkchop is only mentioned once in the script. It’s a very bare-bones back-to-basics slasher film. It’s basically PIG GIRL: YEAR ONE. What happens when someone who has always been the side-kick strikes out on her own? I think it’s important to strip away all the comedy and all of the deep network of related characters and survivors from the previous films and make something clean and fresh, if a slasher can ever really be so. We’re not going to reinvent the wheel here, we’re just going to try to make it the creepiest fucking wheel we can. We haven’t made a serious film yet. Porkchop 2 might be our darkest, but it’s still a comedy. Pig Girl isn’t full of many laughs, I’ll tell you that.

Will we see any other characters from the Razor Sharp universe other than Pig Girl in the film?

There’s only one existing character and it’s not who you’d think. I will say, there is no Burt or any version of Teddy in this one.

I’ll be honest, I find that slightly sad.

The Burt character is awesome and I love him dearly and love working with Brian, but this is a different movie and you can’t really have Burt without a lot of laughs and a big spectacle.

Plus I feel like Porkchop 3D wrapped up his story-arc nicely and The Crawling Dead sort of revisited his Zombie Babies persona

so yeah I know people love Burt but he would be so out of place in this movie it just wouldn’t work.

The focus this time should be on our titular character, so much so that we are going to be doing a LOT of POV so you can see exactly how Pig Girl goes about her business.

Burt would probably figure into a potential sequel, however

Finally, what else can the fans expect to see in this spin-off?

We filmed Porkchop 3D in a different location than the previous two films and it was a really beautiful place, but I feel like we need to return to where it all began, so that’s what will be happening this time around. So you’ll be back in the woods where Porkchop threw lawn darts, a robot banged a chick, and a cheerleader got pole-sawed up the snatch. I’m pretty excited about it.
