Sometime ago I watched the James Balsamo film Cool as Hell and really enjoyed it.  The film was great.  It had tons of boobs, a crazy and fun story, and unfolded very well on film offering a great low-budget affair that should be watched.

I reached out to Wild Eye Releasing and they sent me a huge shipment of films and Balsamo’s flick Hack Job was in it.  I knew that was his first film and I was pretty excited to see it.  Sadly, after watching it I did not like it.  It was all over the place and showed no real form or organization.

I chalked it up to it being inexperience and wrote my review.  I watched a few other films in the mean time to get the bad taste out of my mouth and jumped back on the Balsamo bandwagon and threw in I Spill Your Guts.

**Spoiler Alert**The film follows two friends that enlist in the army together where they go overseas.  While in combat Dennis (Balsamo) is shot in the neck while protecting Joe (Walsh) from enemy fire.  The military medical staff give him just a few hours to live.

Joe decides that because Dennis is dying that he will take the credit for the valiant act and steal all the glory.  Joe returns back to New York where he is treated like a hero.  While people turn up dead, Joe parties it up with the ladies.  As the bodies pile up Joe discovers that Dennis did not die and is back to settle the score with his old pal!**Spoiler Alert**

While comparing this film with Cool as Hell it is obvious that Balsamo has grown as a director after making this film and Hack Job.  Don’t get me wrong, this film is a huge improvement over Hack Job but it is not on the same level as CaH.  This film was a fun watch that shows that the slasher and revenge sub-genre is still alive and well after all these years.  Also, this film has enough boobs to cripple your right hand (or left).

The acting is not that great even for a low-budget film.  Walsh and Dan E. Danger do a decent job with their roles but the rest of the cast make their scenes awkward to watch and hard to follow.  The story is the same tried and true revenge style slasher but with a more modern war torn twist.  More modern directors attempting to make a slasher should borrow from Balsamo and add a modern twist to the true slasher formula.

Finally, we do get some on screen kills but the special effects for them are not the best you will see.  They don’t really take away from the kill but they don’t really add anything to them either.  Overall, this is a decent slasher flick filled with blood and boobs.  I recommend it for at least one watch!
