Deadly Beauty: Horror’s Scream Queens and Rising Talent: Kelci C. Magel

fg“I would first like to start off by introducing myself; My name is KelcI C. Magel and I can now officially call Cali Home :) I am a working actress and have been since the age of 3. Over the years I have done a handful of films, and television shows, initially hoping to keep building my resume. I have also had the privilege to work for casting agencies and talent studios in New York, and Ohio. If I had to pick my favorite genre to work in I would have to say hands down it’s horror, but I am very versatile and can play most any role. I am now getting more serious with modeling and working very hard on perfecting that art as well. Although I support models who do full nudity I am not that kinda girl :) That being said I know what it takes to properly execute a project, and ask that you please keep me in mind when choosing your casting considerations.”*

1. How did you get into the industry?

Born and raised in West Burlington, Iowa, I started acting career at a very young age. I was always putting on performances for my family and friends. I continued on throughout my entire general schooling and on into college where I received my A.A. from community college and my B.F.A. from Illinois College.

My first experience on set was working as a stand-in on an independent film called ‘Twelve Thirty‘ directed by Jeff Lipsky and starred Jonathan Groff, and Mamie Gummer. Knowing I always wanted to be in the industry I’d say I was like a sponge and would absorb every aspect of the industry, I couldn’t get enough. After ‘Thirty’ I took a summer internship in New York City with one of the biggest named casting agencies, D.D.O. Artists Agency. There is where I learned all there was about the casting side of the industry. I took that knowledge and proceeded to work for a few other casting/talent agencies in the Midwest, but soon realized, being a Leo and all, I needed to be back in front of the the camera. So I took my first audition in the real world in Brookville, OH for a feature length, indie horror film entitled “Midsummer Nightmares” directed by Ryan Stacy. After accepting a supporting role I was then promoted to a supporting lead and also became the acting coach, also earning an executive producer credit. At this time I then realized my life was about to change drastically. I like to joke and say that this was the time that my soul was consumed by the horror genre! Moving ahead to present day, I am now blessed to be living in Hollywood, CA and am a working actress, and have done over a dozen indie and feature horror films. Some including: ‘The Euginist– directed by Tariq Nasheed, ‘Jessica’s Room‘ directed and edited by Eric Knight, and ‘The Reunion‘ starring Maria Olsen (my close friend and mentor).

2. What Scream Queen inspired you most?

The Scream Queens that I admire the most would first have to Bette Davis; I used to sit and watch “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte”, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane”, and “Scream Pretty Peggy” ALL THE TIME! Also Janet Leigh from Psycho! And presently Maria Olsen, who inspires me daily!

3. What are the next couple projects you are working on?

I will be flying back to Ohio to film the sequel to the first film that started it all: “Midsummer Nightmares II: Summers End.” This time around I’ll be one of the leads as well as a producer! I am also taking in another one of Ryan Stacy’s short films, which will be announced officially in the coming months! After my time in Ohio, I will be returning home to Hollywood where I have multiple projects in the works.
