Relativity and Blumhouse to Acquire New Supernatural Thriller ‘Oculus’!

While catching up on some of the horror news, word has come in that Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions will be partnering up with Relativity Media to acquire the new supernatural thriller Oculus at the Toronto International Film Festival.   Read on for more details on the deal.

According to The Wrap, Relativity Media is in final negotiations to partner with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions to acquire Mike Flanagan’s horror film ”Oculus” at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Relativity is planning a wide release, though further distribution details including a release date will be announced later.

Flanagan (“Absentia”) directed from a screenplay he wrote with Jeff Howard, which is based on the short screenplay by Flanagan and Jeff Seidman.

Mark D. Evans and Trevor Macy produced the film, which stars Karen Gillan (“Doctor Who”), Brenton Thwaites (“Maleficent”) and Katee Sackhoff (“Battlestar Galactica”).

Story follows a brother and sister who team up to defeat an evil force that killed their parents and change the course of their lives.

Focus Features International is handling foreign sales for the project, which Relativity’s
Robbie Brenner will oversee for the studio.
