Zohar Films Turns to Kickstarter to Find the Next Big Horror Film Star

397912_574613639250148_641872416_nHollywood screenwriter Mylo Carbia announced this morning that the company has launched its first Kickstarter Campaign to raise the last cash needed to produce their latest horror flick “Violets Are Red” and vows to cast two unknown female leads in return.

“This project is still in early development but if we finish raising our budget now, we are confident we can get this movie in the can by Summer 2014 in preparation for a potential theatrical release during Halloween 2015,” said Carbia to reporters this morning.

What makes this production unique for Zohar Films is that the company – who usually develops projects aimed at Hollywood A-listers – pledges to only cast incredibly talented but unknown actors for this particular film.

“Kickstarter is about giving the power back to the people and we felt it was important to honor that spirit by giving unknown actors a real chance at being seen by Hollywood,” said Carbia. “Once we go into pre-production, we will send all of our Kickstarter backers detailed information about upcoming auditions before it goes public.”

Kickstarter rewards for this project start at $5 and range from a $25 donation that gets your name listed in the closing credits of the movie to a $10,000 co-executive producer credit with 6 tickets to the movie premiere and after party.

Carbia said the upcoming horror film – which is about a sorority girl held hostage by a mysterious woman who gives her only 88 minutes to figure our her identity – will be written and directed by Carbia herself and employ 25-40 talented people in need of work in the New York City area.
