Scriptures and Screams: Facebreaker: Dedicated to the Flesh CD Review
Zombies are everywhere we look today, as you can see them in movies, TV shows, books and every other aspect of our everyday lives. So when Metal Blade Records calls your latest album “a maximum assault of zombie death metal anger”, what else can be said about it that would give it justice? Well I am here to tell you that the fourth album in Facebreaker’s library is EXACTLY what the zombie apocalypse would sound like! Much like the slow rotting doom that would approach you during the zombie uprising, Roberth Karlsson (Vocals), Janne Ivarsson (Guitar), Jonas Magnusson (Bass, Backing Vocals), Mika Lagreen (Lead Guitar) and Mikael “Kniven” Wassholm (Drums) do much the same with this album. The brutal intensity of tracks like “Zombie Flesh Cult”, “Hellmaster” and “Carving for Brains” come at you like the dead would, with deep guttural vocal growls, steady and consistent drum blasts and searing guitar solos that wash over you in unrelenting waves. Keeping the intensity up to a 10, tracks like “Swarm of Zombies”, “World Cremation” and “Tomb of the Hungry Dead” round out the brutality and have you looking over your shoulder to see if the rotting carcasses of the dead are closing in on you. If you enjoy bands like Bloodbath, Autopsy and Cannibal Corpse, then this is what you need to be listening to! To the makers of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games: “Nuclear Outbreak” and “Tomb of the Hungry Dead” would be awesome for the series!
