Review: Bigfoot at Holler Creek Canyon

HollerCreekEveryone loves a good Bigfoot movie, right?

Bigfoot at Holler Creek Canyon is written and directed by John Poague with Barbara Kymlicka. Cast members include Justin Alvarez, Melisa Breiner-Sanders, Anna Bridgforth, Danny Darder, Tom Davis, Nathan Faudree, Gentry Ferrell, and porn star turned reality star turned actor Ron Jeremy.

Bigfoot at Holler Creek Canyon is your typical Bigfoot attack more where a small group of friends head to a remote cabin in the woods for a little get-away. Eventually Bigfoot discovers their location and starts to mangle them and bring their body parts back to his cave.

The beginning of this movie – I’d say the first 10 or 15 minutes – is very rough. The blood looked like strawberry flavored fruit punch and the picture quality looked like something you’d get off of an early 1990s VHS recorder. I saw this and thought, “Oh God, this is going to be horrible,” but luckily the production as a whole somehow improved after the first half hour. It actually turned out to be quite enjoyable as far as low budget creature features go.

The costume used to transform the actor into Bigfoot looked like it was created specifically for this film. In other words, it looked unique and was put together better than a cheap $40 Halloween costume you’d get from Party City. Surprisingly too, the actors playing Bigfoot were quite nimble in the costume and could move well, giving the beast a more lifelike – and in return, scary – look. I’ll give the producers and special effects techs the most applause because they were the hardest workers in making a believable movie monster.

I don’t know what else to say about this feature. The acting was completely average. There was a lot of nudity. The death scenes were bloody, but usually half off screen. Nice set location. Oh! One more thing worth mentioning is Ron Jeremy gets a chase scene! Yes, this Bigfoot movie doesn’t have a half naked horror starlett running for her life. It has Ron Jeremy. Never thought I’d see Ron Jeremy get a chase scene over anyone else.

Ratings-wise…I’d give Bigfoot at Holler Creek Canyon a 5.2 out of 10.
