Horror Society Awards Return January 2014
Promises to be Interactive With New Rules

Last year’s Horror Society Awards was a widely successful event. The website, owned by Mitchell D. Wells of Illinois, received over 2,400 votes in its first annual award ceremony. The HSAs, a mission to ask indie horror fans for their top choices, will continue the tradition for a second year in a row…and in starts next week, right on the crest of 2014!

“We’re going to have brand new rules this year,” Michael DeFellipo explained. He has been writing for Horror Society for three years. “Last year, there weren’t many rules in terms of the voting process. So certain fan bases spam voted resulting in winners that no one’s even heard of before. I, specifically, wanted better voting rules this time around to insure integrity.”

The HSAs are a source of great validation for indie filmmakers. Only in the website’s awards ceremony will independent projects be listed amongst Big Hollywood films, competing for titles and recognition. Being that Horror Society was originally founded to promote the indie horror genre, the brunt of the spotlight is left on the independent titles.

“We also pride ourselves on being as fan/subscriber interactive as possible,” DeFellipo added. “This year the judges will be submitting nominees, on top of a public vote, and even a Twitter poll. All three forms of voting will determine the nominees.”

The public voting for each nominee will begin the Horror Society Awards 2014 process. The public will be asked to nominate their choice a category, with a one entry per day-one week time period limit on each category. 7 nominees will be chosen from the public vote, followed by 2 more submissions from Horror Society staff (The Judges), and it will all be capped off by a Save Vote, which will be done through Twitter and result in a final nominee being chosen for the category.

Make sure you have those fingers locked on your keyboard because voting for category one – Best Short Film – begins next week!

Last years winners included Cabin In The Woods as Best Horror Film, Zombie Hunters as Best Web Series, Julie Ann Hamolko as Favorite Scream Queen, and Man Hunt as Most Anticipated Flick of 2013.
