“Captured Souls” by Sèphera Girón

Captured Souls

Can science create the perfect lover? Or only a living hell?

Dr. Miriam Frederick is a brilliant professor at a large university. But her latest experiments are decidedly unsanctioned and far more chilling than anyone could imagine. She is determined to answer questions that have plagued mankind for millennia. What is love? What is lust?

Her first specimen is an author with a gift for language. Specimen Two is an athlete with amazing endurance. Specimen Three provides physical beauty. But once she has trapped her subjects, her twisted attempt to create the perfect lover will have unexpected—and nightmarish—results, not just for her captives, but for her as well…..

Captured Souls is set somewhere in the Annex near the University of Toronto campus in modern times. Sèphera lived in the Annex for around a decade before moving to Mississauga to raise her sons for seventeen years and has always had a soft spot for it. Themes of love, companionship, beauty, and power are explored through a horror backdrop.

Captured Souls is Sèphera’s first book for Samhain though she previously worked with editor Don D’Auria on four horror novels with Leisure Books, an imprint of the now defunct Dorchester Publishing.

Sèphera is the recipient of the Mississauga Arts Award, “Marty,” in the Established Literary Category. Other recognition includes “The Silver Hammer Award” from the Horror Writers Association and “Community Spirit” Producers award from Music Theatre Mississauga in 2008. She later was Vice-President of MTM for three years.  She has been the Ontario Chapter Head for the Horror Writers Association for over fifteen years. She is a member of a writers’ group dubbed “The Bellfire Club” which includes Nancy Baker, Gemma Files, Helen Marshall, Sandra Kasturi, Halli Villegas, and Michael Rowe.

Sèphera had four horror novels published with Leisure. She has also published with Orion, Raincoast, Red Wheel/Weiser, Ravenous Romance, Necon E-books, Darktales, Cemetery Dance, Thunder’s Mouth, Masquerade, and others.

Not only does Sèphera love to write but she also loves to act. She played “Ruby” in Slime City Massacre, directed by Gregory Lamberson, and a zombie in “Zombie Love,” a music video by I HATE TODD.

She contributed as a dramaturge to Kimberly Robert’s cabaret show “The Get Happy Hour with Judy” which will premiere 2014 in Toronto, Montreal, and Chicago.

Sèphera also enjoys paranormal investigations and has been spooked at sites such as Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast, the Haunted Mansion Retreat, Dollhouse Museum (Underground Railroad), Iron Island, The Monteleone Hotel, Casa Loma, Hawthorne Hotel, and more. She’s looking forward to a writer’s retreat at the Stanley Hotel (The Overlook) in Colorado in October 2014.

Sèphera was born in New Orleans, grew up in London, Ontario, attended York University, lived in Mississauga for seventeen years, and returned to Toronto in 2010.
