TEARS OF GOD in production!

TEARS-poster

TEARS OF GOD is a minimalist fable about possession in a small town.  A recently fatherless woman embarks on her own in order to stop it, but is confronted with her own demons as the town falls prey to seemingly apocalyptic happenings around her.  Shot in the vein of 80s European horror films, like Argento and Zulawski, the film meanders through the various lives of the village in startlingly horrific vignettes with restrained performances and floating, meditative long takes.

Starring Kate Lyn Sheil (Tv’s “HOUSE OF CARDS”, SUN DON’T SHINE, VHS, YOU’RE NEXT, THE COMEDY), with appearances by Frank Mosley (UPSTREAM COLOR, AINT THEM BODIES SAINTS, LADIES OF THE HOUSE, upcoming ID: DON’T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT 2), Amara Gyulai (YOU ARE YOUR BODY/YOU ARE NOT YOUR BODY), Kira Pearson (THE MUD), Michael Crabtree (PHOBIA, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE LIFE OF DAVID GALE, TENDER MERCIES, TEMPLE GRANDIN), Audrey Speicher (TO.GET.HER), and Samuel Herring (lead singer of the Future Islands, in his debut film role).

Directed by North Carolina native Robert Hillyer Barnett, marking his second collaboration with writer Diamando Proimos and their company BENDING HOUSE.  Their first work was the short HOLY GOD HOLY MIGHTY HOLY IMMORTAL HAVE MERCY UPON US, a poignant short film that won praise for his poetic editing and cinematography on a limited festival run before being released by SIMPLE MACHINE and on Kentucker Audley’s NO BUDGE, an indie-curated site praised by the likes of THE NEW YORKER, PASTE MAGAZINE, and THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, and which also won Best Editing in their 2013 awards selections.  TEARS OF GOD is produced by Barnett, Proimos, and co-star Frank Mosley (HOLD, WHITE CREEK, SATISFACTION), production designed by Lanie Marie Overton (A TEACHER, YOU’RE NEXT, VHS, SUN DON’T SHINE), SFX by Marcus Koch and Oddtopsy FX (LOREN CASS, SWEATSHOP, LADIES OF THE HOUSE, 100 TEARS), and cinematography by Michael Ormiston (THE FICTITIOUS LIFE OF ETHAN, CHARLES BUKOWSKI’S NIRVANA).

Production is set for February 2014 in and around Asheville, NC.
