INDIE HORROR FILMMAKER’S NEW SHORTS EXPLORES A MORE ARTFUL SIDE TO THE MACABRE

Director Ryan M. Andrews, known for genre favorites Black Eve and the multi-award winning zombie film SICK, is set to release two short films this year on the film festival circuit. Between making features, Andrews experiments with short films that show a more artful side to the genre he loves. While his features focus on a more “in your face” style of horror with zombies, mad scientists and serial killers, his shorts are more methodical and dramatic in it’s storytelling.

The first short is My Old Man, a script written by G. M. Giacomelli that exposes the vulnerability of our mind and the dark places it can take us. The plotline for My Old Man is:  Cleo has hit rock bottom. She lost her family and her job. As she returns to a familiar dark place, the ranting and ravings of an old man forces her to re-examine her life.

MyOldManMy Old Man stars indie icon Robert Nolan (Familiar, SICK, Silent Retreat) and Adrian Cowan (Burning Daylight) and has it’s World Premiere on Friday March 21st 2014 in Toronto, Ontario at the Canadian Film Festival. Look for it in the Spring of 2014 at festivals across the USA.

This will be followed later this year by Andrews’ Art house thriller Klymene, which stars Scream Queen Jessica Cameron (Camel Spiders, Truth Or Dare, Silent Night) and Ry Barrett (NeverLost, Desperate Souls, Antisocial) The story line is as follows: Hidden away in a dark back alley, the stage is set. The eternal struggle of an artist is tonight’s entertainment. Fueled by frustration and desperate for acceptance, the artist bears his soul to the only woman he has ever loved.

As Andrews says about both films, “I love the exciting and intense style that I use when making features. But just as much as I’m inspired by the brutality of films like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, I also worship the artful storytelling of the macabre mastered by artists like Cronenberg and Lynch. And these shorts follow that style.”
