The new series will technically not be a spinoff, as it will feature a whole new cast of characters different from the original show. It will also take place in a different location, possibly in the same timeline.
“We are going to see an entirely different corner of ‘The Walking Dead,'” show creator Robert Kirkman told IGN last October. “It definitely won’t be set in Georgia … It’s important to us that this show exists on its own.”
