Pumpkinhead to be summoned again by Brad Krevoy.

pumpkinheadA few weeks ago I posted an article I wrote that basically stated the Pumpkinhead franchise was one of the most underrated horror franchises around and I was dying for a new, original sequel.

This was not what I had in mind.

The news broke yesterday afternoon that Pumpkinhead was going to be summoned again with a new movie!

Details are a little slim at the moment, but the word around the block is that the new Pumpkinhead film will be a reboot. I’m going to hold on and have this clarified before I throw my hands in the air and say, “Really? Fucking really?” Sometimes there can be a big difference between a reboot and a remake. I’m extremely critical of all the horror movie remakes, with Black Christmas being the only one I really enjoyed, so I’m hoping that my favorite demon of vengeance isn’t being “re-envisioned.” Instead, I’m going to hope for a reboot…as in a reboot of sequels production. The last sequel, Blood Feud, was released in 2007. Maybe the “Pumpkinhead reboot” is meant to reboot the release of new sequels. Please?

On the flip side, the official producer has been confirmed! It’s none other than sold-to-SyFy and released straight-to-DVD director Brad Krevoy. Brad Krevoy served as producer on Pumpkinhead 2 and is responsible for the two 2000s sequels, Ashes to Ashes and Blood Feud. The latter of the two I thoroughly enjoyed.  His other credits include Dumb and Dumber, Jungle 2 Jungle, Behind Enemy Lines, Dracula 3000, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2.

I’ll be reporting on this title as it progresses.

The original Pumpkinhead was released in 1989, directed by Stan Winston, and starred Lance Henriksen.
