Interview: The Lashman’s David Vaughn

DV1*Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my pleasure to introduce to you the talented Mr. David Vaughn. David is one of the lead actors in The Lashman, a new slasher flick that will premiering at the Full Moon Tattoo & Horror Festival in just about a week! Take some time to get to know him by reading our interview below, and then head out to the festival here and cheer him on.

H: What made you decide to get into the entertainment business?
D: I got into show business because it was the only thing I wanted to do. I’ve worked in a lot of professions, and I’ve hated them all. The one thing I could never shake is acting.

H: Film, television, commercials, stage productions, modeling; you’ve really done it all! Do you think being multi-talented and cross-vocational has helped maintain your steady career?
D: I absolutely think that being multi-talented and cross-vocational has helped maintain my steady career. It’s like diversifying one’s stock portfolio. The more ways in which I can be of service to someone, the better my chances are of having what they need for any given project.

imageH: You’ve appeared in music videos with major recording artists – Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Eli Young Band, Jesse James, to name a few – and I was wondering how it felt for your to rub elbows with such talent?
D: To be honest, it’s just another day at work. Working with artists who are already well established or famous is like getting to practice with the starting line-up when you’re the 5th string rookie. Theirs are the jobs I’m gunning for. Yes, it’s exciting, but to me it’s exciting because I get to be on camera, not because of who I’m working with. What I’m more impressed by is how genuine and down-to-earth the artists are. I’ve worked with much less accomplished talent who had much bigger egos.

H: Have these music video appearances been your career highlight, or would you choose something else as your crowning achievement?
D: I would say that the music videos were fun, but not career highlights. I would have to save that title for my work with One Way or Another Productions.

image (1)H: With the premiere of The Lashman coming in just a few more weeks, I think we need to touch on that for a second. What attracted you to playing a role in an indie slasher flick?
D: I was attracted to The Lashman because I’m a huge fan of horror flicks, plain and simple.

H: Speaking of attraction, what was it like acting alongside the amazingly talented (and breath-takingly beautiful) Stacey Dixon and Kaylee Williams?
D: I loved working with Stacey, she’s a true professional. She always came to set ready to work.

H: I love behind-the scenes commentary. What is your favorite memory from filming?
D: My favorite memory from filming was riding in the back of the pickup truck covered in fake blood as the sun rose after our last night of shooting. I love horror.

H: Since you filmed The Lashman, you were heavily involved with the film productions Chloe and The Butterfly Chasers. What can you tell me about these films?
D: Well, I can’t really tell you anything about Butterfly Chasers other than I play a lead role, and I’m a co-producer. I’m under a pretty strict NDA on that project. The Ten Commandments of Chloe, however, has been reworked and is scheduled to re-release soon. Naama Kates has brought some people on board and convinced One Way to take another look at the film after winning multiple awards when it went to festival.

H: What’s in store for David Vaughn after The Lashman premiere and the rest of 2014?
D: Who knows what’s in store for 2014? I just wrapped on several short films, and I’ve been booking a lot of commercials, but hopefully more features are on the horizon. I was recently made full producer with One Way or Another Productions, and we have several great projects in the pipeline for 2014, so that’s my focus right now.
