Dark Souls 2 Review

10294330_807383679273097_2694915833672664058_nDark Souls 2 is a RPG developed by the Japanese game company FROMSOFTWARE and published by NAMCO BANDAI. Dark Souls 2 is the third installment of the series. The game utilizes game mechanics from demon souls and from dark souls.

The game starts out with a beautiful cinematic of your character walking through the rain confused and weak and explains how you are cursed with a dark sign that will consume your soul unless you find a way to stop the curse. After the cut scene is over you find yourself in a place called Things Betwixt. Up ahead is a small hut with three witches who tell you that you are running out of time after you name and customize your character. There are eight different classes to choose from ranging from a knight to a mage. Now Dark Souls 2 isn’t your ordinary medieval RPG game. Your currency is the souls of your fallen enemies and dying doesn’t respawn you at your last checkpoint. Dying in Dark Souls 2 is much more brutal, death means enemies respawn, your health is lowered and you drop your hard earned souls. So be wise on how you plan on attacking. Not every place in the world is a hostile hell, there are safe havens such as the town of majula and bonfire locations. So don’t worry about being there for a while. To progress in the dark souls world you need to beat the biggest obstacles… The area bosses. The bosses in Dark Souls 2 are unique due to the attacks they use and their appearance. They range from a giant wooden creature to the king of the land. But you don’t have to play alone, the creators improved the co-op feature so playing with friends is smoother and easier to use. Players can be summoned by an item that is found somewhere early in the game. Players can be useful in your world or hostile, aside from being summoned, players can invade your world in order to stop you from continuing your quest.

In my opinion Dark Souls 2 is a must have for hardcore gamers and fans of all things gruesome. Some complaints I have with Dark Souls 2 is that you can’t invite friends to the game unless you find their summon sign in the world and the lock on feature in game could be improved a bit more. Dark Souls 2 is available now on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC
