The world was introduced to a brand new horror villain in Victor Salva’s Jeepers Creepers in 2001. The film, which centered around a hybrid monster tracking prey by their fear, was so successful that a sequel followed in 2003. Rumors of a third movie, under the working title Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral, started way back in 2010. However, four years later horror fans haven’t seen the winged, slimy truck driver for a variety of reasons: executives wanting the movie to be in 3D, MGM not wanting to fund the movie, re-writes and re-casts galore, the battle between a theatrical and straight-to-DVD release, etc.
Finally, it looks like Jeepers Creepers 3 may be moving forward. It all began in November of 2013 when writer/director Victor Salva commented on the film’s current limbo status and that, “It has come close several times to going before camera, and I hope someone sees the wisdom in shooting this. According to IMDB we are already shooing; I guess they started without us.” Although the comments weren’t as positive as fans expected, it gave Creeper fans hope that the third and final entry in the franchise would see the light of day eventually.
Then, in February of 2014, Gina Philips apparently had an interview with the German television show, “Bayerisches Fernsehen,” where she stated that Jeepers Creepers 3 will definitely be filming in 2014. And it looks like she may not have been lying. Gina appeared in the first movie in the role of Trish. As of this writing, she is the only confirmed cast member to be returning to the franchise.
According to an article over at MoviePilot, ShockTilYouDrop and “two other reliable sources” are claiming that Jeepers Creepers 3 is currently in production, with two days worth of filming already in the can.
I’m going to remain slightly skeptical on this one, until I see more proof than two sites claiming reliable sources. If Jeepers Creepers 3 is indeed in production, I’m sure all major horror and movie outlets would have had some sort of announcement by now. Even straight-to-DVD titles like Wrong Turn 6 and Joy Ride 3 are receiving lots of announcements and buzz well before their release dates later this year. As much as I love the Jeepers Creepers series, a part of me believes this is going to be another movie hoax. And if it’s not, then at least you heard it here first!
