Horror Host Magoo Gelehrter Passes Away.

GarouThe art of horror hosting is a dying avenue these days, so the talented folks who stick to MC’ing b-movies on a regular basis are regarded with the highest respect. When the horror community loses a horror host, it resounds through the community because of the small, tightknit groups of people who produce and promote their respective shows and the fans who avidly follow them.

Today I learned of the passing of Magoo Gelehrter who portrayed the pint-sized werewolf Garou on “Penny Dreadful’s Shilling Shockers.” The character of Garou appeared in each episode of the eight season, 57 episode series. A ninth season is currently in pre-production. Magoo Gelehrter branched off into solo adventures as well, having appeared in Art of Etiolation, The Dungeon of Dr. Dreck, Monster Kids, Evan Straw, and Cameron McCasland’s Dreadful Hallowgreen Special.

The Penny Dreadful Shilling Shocker’s Official Facebook page has been keeping fans up-to-date on Gelehrter’s condition since March of 2014. The unfortunate announcement of his passing came less than 24 hours ago: “I am sorry to announce that, after a brave fight, our beloved friend Magoo Gelehrter and Garou Wolfman passed onto a higher plane this afternoon. Please understand that Penny Dreadful will not be able to be online or respond to messages for a while. Thank you all for your love and support over the past months.”

Just last week, Magoo and his character Garou received a Rondo Hatton Award for Purest In Heart. The award was created to honor someone in the horror community who was passionate, energetic, strong, and overall a great human being.

He will be missed dearly, and all of us here at Horror Society send our condolences to his friends and family, especially Danielle, his wife, who portrays Penny Dreadful.
