PatriciaChicaAWARD WINNING LATINA DIRECTOR PATRICIA CHICA ANNOUNCED TO DIRECT THE FEATURE FILM “LA SIGUANABA” FOR INDIE OUTFIT JF FILMS

Cannes, France May 23, 2014 – It was announced yesterday at the Cannes Film Festival that Patricia Chica has been attached to direct La Siguanaba for her next project. La Siguanaba is based on the book “In A Drink” by Nancy Brooks.  The story centers on a legendary Central American myth about a goddess returned to earth to eat the hearts of men. Chica is at the Cannes Film Festival for the world premiere of her latest film, Serpent’s Lullaby.

“I’m very excited to be attached to direct La Siguanaba because the myth of this Central American supernatural character has always intrigued me since my childhood back in El Salvador,” said Chica, “I like the fact that I can direct a story anchored in my roots and at the same time bring out a contemporary and edgy twist to it!”

Brooks’ novel has been described as a dramatically layered supernatural story about a legendary Central American myth set in contemporary times.

“Patricia is one of the hippest and edgiest Latina directors working today. Her Central American background only serves to punctuate why she is the right choice for this film and the best director to bring the Siguanaba myth to life, with audience crossover potential in a genre that has demonstrated huge global market appeal. She gets it,” said the film’s producer, JF Estrada.

Internationally recognized for her multiple award-winning films, Chica’s credits include Day Before Yesterday, La Promesse, Rockabilly 514, and most recently, Ceramic Tango. Patricia is particularly noted for her provocative style and her method of exploring the tormented emotional state of her characters.

Estrada recently produced the Spanish language feature, DESCONOCIDOS which sold to CineLatino in 2013.

Chica can currently be followed on Movie Maker’s website, where she blogs and video records her Cannes 2014 experiences.
