Award-winning filmmaker Stuart Wahlin (Best Director, “Hand of Glory” 2012, Best Feature Screenplay, “Slay Utterly” 2014) has unveiled a new web series, “The Miskatonic Files,” inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

Set in a modern day, the series follows two university professors (North Roberts and Darren Marlar) as they research the unknown from episode to episode.

“Though each installment will sort-of be its own little story, there’s a particularly Lovecraftian backdrop to the season as a whole,” Wahlin explained. “The series begins with a rare copy of ‘The Necronomicon’ having been stolen from the British Museum. Of course, Miskatonic University has one of only four remaining copies, so there’s much to be on-edge about in Arkham, Mass. That scenario really comes to a head by the end of the season.”

In addition to releasing a trailer, a fundraising campaign has been launched:

Wahlin indicated the crowd-funding effort is largely aimed at securing name talent to appear as guests stars. With Wahlin’s horror-thriller “Slay Utterly” set for production next year, he’ll likely have his eyes on that film’s stars, Bill Oberst Jr. and Melantha Blackthorne.

“It’s a rare thing for such a great writer’s work to be in the public domain, and that’s nurtured a rich tradition of writers building on the universe Lovecraft created,” Wahlin said. “I’m proud to be part of that tradition, and hope to bring my own contributions to it.”

The first episode of “The Miskatonic Files” is expected to be released by September.
