Nicholas Brendon and James Marsters co-writing “Buffy” comics.

buffyseason103After seven years on television, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” ended its run in May of 2003. Luckily, the series would continue in 2007 in the form of a canon comic book series – Buffy Season 8. Season 8 of Buffy was made up of 40 issues and three one shots that were spaced out over the course of four years. Buffy Season 9 returned with only 25 new issues, but with companion series Angel & Faith, Spike: A Dark Place, and Willow: Wonderland. Currently, Dark Horse Comics is in production of Buffy Season 10 and Season 2 of Angel & faith, and familiar faces are being brought to the writing/editing table.

Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander in 145 episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and James Marsters, who played Spike in 97 episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” are joining the writing and editing team for Buffy Season 10 and a new Spike mini-series. After “Buffy,” Brendon briefly lead his own show – “Kitchen Confidential – before starring in a number of independent horror films and booking recurring roles on hit series “Private Practice” and “Criminal Minds.” Marsters has also been very successful, with recurring roles on “Without a Trace,” “Torchwood,” “Caprica,” “Smallville,” and “Warehouse 13.” They are the first main characters/stars from the television series, besides Juliet Landau (who played Drusilla), to return to the franchise to work on the official comic book series continuation.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources TV, Brendon and Marsters discuss their newfound roles in comic book writing and editing. Brendon speaks on writing his first three issues of Buffy Season 10 while Marsters gives us a glimpse into his upcoming series, Spike: Into the Light, which will take place during season seven of the original television series.
