H3: Who should play Laurie Strode?

LaurieStrodeWhen the end credits rolled after Rob Zombie’s Halloween II in 2009 I thought that the rocker turned director had officially closed his chapters of the Halloween franchise. His second entry, the sequel to his “re-visioning,” finished with a violent and psychologically disturbed Laure Strode in isolation in a white mental ward. So, really, where else could his tales go? I don’t think fans of Michael Myers would go for the “Laurie takes over Michael’s vicious motives” storyline. Laurie Strode is the queen of survivor girls, the one woman who all others look up to in terms of being the one to face down the serial killer. Again, I don’t think fans of Michael Myers would go for “Laurie teams up with Michael” either.

So where does this leave us? In June 2014 it was announced that H3: Halloween 3 was in pre-production, a new entry in the new trilogy featuring Michael Myers as the antagonist. Obviously characters based on John Carpenter’s original, iconic film will be ever present in the new feature film, but the studios and producers backing H3 are keeping their lips sealed. This leaves a lot of plot ideas open to debate – how will the franchise continue and what does this mean for Laurie Strode? Frankly, my idea that Laurie Strode is released from the psych ward 20 years later and dealing with Michael again is the only logical route. It would even come full circle with the original series, much in the same vein as Halloween: H20.

Scout Taylor Compton has commented on Twitter that she is ready to return to the role of Laurie Strode should the character be featured in H3. But, if the character is indeed put to rest or is introduced as a much older woman, then chances are Scout Taylor Compton may not be able to fulfill the role for obvious reasons.

This is my question to you. Should the role be recast or should the character of Laurie Strode be introduced to us again as a much older woman, who would you like to see play the role in H3 next year? Comment on this article, on Facebook, or on Twitter to let me know your thoughts!

  1. It depends on what movie they’re filming.

If they acknowledge that Michael Myers died in the first film and that Laurie was imagining him in place for what she was doing in the second film, then I think Scout should return to the role because it would then be obvious that the makers know what they’re doing.
