Universal acquires Anne Rice’s ‘The Vampire Chronicles’ Entire Book Series!

The Vampire Chronicles

Universal and Imagine Entertainment have acquired the entire book series for Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles. That means the entire 13 book series and one more that doesn’t hit shelves until October will eventually be adapted to film. Some, like Interview With The Vampire and Queen of the Damned that have already been turned into films will be remade. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce the films. More details below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The acquisition encompasses the entire body of existing and future novels in the series, including the adapted screenplay written by Rice’s son, Christopher Rice, for Tale of the Body Thief, which Imagine optioned two years ago. There are 13 books in the main series, with another — Prince Lestat — hitting shelves in October.

Erica Huggins will oversee films based on the series for Imagine Entertainment, and Bobby Cohen will executive produce.

This is a massive deal for Universal and Imagine. There is so much material with which to pull from for future films. Let’s hope they do it right.
