‘The Leftovers’ Renewed For Season 2!

left

I missed this news about two weeks ago, but I’m going to share it now anyway.

HBO has officially given “The Leftovers” a season two go-ahead.

“The Leftovers” premiered on HBO at the end of June with a total of 1,770,000 viewers tuning in for episode one. Since then the show has remained consistent and averaged about 1,600,000 viewers per episode. Sunday’s episode, ‘The Garvey’s At Their Best,’ was even the most watched episode of the season so far with 1,850,000 people tuning in. “The Leftovers” finishes its 10 episode season on September 7, 2014.

The freshman series, based on the novel by Tom Perrotta, follows the town of Mapleton, New York three years after a rapture-like event caused 140,000,000 people to disappear. Kevin Garvey is the police chief in Mapleton and he is experiencing strange activity and family troubles while also being stuck in the hostility between the locals and a cult called The Guilty Remnants. “The Leftovers” has a lot of mysterious and science-fiction elements to it, but it’s also a drama with lots of interconnected storylines.

“The Leftovers” stars Justin Theroux (American Psycho, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle), Amy Brenneman (“Judging Amy,” “Private Practice”), Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later, Thor 2), Liv Tyler (Armageddon, The Strangers), Chris Zylka (Shark Night, Piranha 3DD), Paterson Joseph (“Casualty,” “Law & Order: UK”), and Carrie Coon.

The only bad part about this news is I probably have to wait all the way until next summer for season two!
