Who do you think will win “Face Off: Judge Match?”

Face Off - Season 5

Next Tuesday, September 2nd, you won’t be getting your typical episode of “Face Off.” Instead, you’ll be getting a special edition episode called “Face Off: Judge Match,” where the three main judges will compete against each other to determine a winner. As of right now a prize – even for charity – has not been announced, although I think bragging rights are pretty important here. Former “Face off” contestants will be helping judges Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill, and Neville Page in their quest to win the challenge and really showcase their abilities as special effects and monster movie magic creators. My question is…who will be judging the judges?!

My other question is: who do you think is going to win “Face Off: Judge Match” next week on SyFy Channel? It goes without saying that each judge has a very personalized style and they are all so immensely talented. They really are the best in the game. In hopes of helping your predictions as to next week’s results, I’ve compiled a list of previous credits each judge holds. It appears that each judge is well versed in a specific category, which makes them leveled on a playing field of such caliber.

Glenn Hetrick – King of Television Special Effects Makeup
Glenn served as a special effects makeup artist on season one of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in 1997, season one of “Angel” in 1999, “CSI: NY” from 2007-2009, “Heroes” from 2006-2010, and you can currently find him doing the same work on “Extant” with Halle Berry. His other special effects makeup credits include Blade 2 (2000), Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes (2006), Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud (2007), and Legion (2010). Outside of special effects makeup, he was also a painter and sculpture on the set of Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis (2005) and Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave (2006). He’s going to be a tough one to beat because he has the most experience outside of his main focus of work.

Ve Neill – The Queen of Big Screen Make Up
Ve Neill is a 4x ASFFH winner, 3x Oscar winner, 1x BAFTA winner, and 1x Emmy winner. She was either a make up artist or make up department head on cult and box office smash hits including Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), The Lost Boys (1987), Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissor Hands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), Stigmata (1999), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Constantine (2005), Priest (2011), The Hunger Games (2012), and The Host (2013). Outside of movie makeup, she was also part of the creature effects crew on Cocoon: The Return (1988). She may be easy on the eyes, but she’s not going down without a fight. Her knack for accentuating features on a character and making them look real rivals all others.

Neville Page – The Beast Master, The Creature King
Neville Page has conceptualized and designed some of the biggest creatures and figures in the science fiction genre in the last decade. His designs were used to create characters in Superman Returns (2006), Star Trek (2009), The Chronicles of Narnia (2005), Cloverfield (2008), Avatar (2009), Piranha 3D (2010), Super 8 (2011), Prometheus (2012), “Falling Skies” in 2013, and Noah (2014). Outside of design, he was also in the props department on Planet of the Apes (2001) and Fantastic Four (2005). He’s going to be a hard one to beat because he knows how to make a fully actualized, cohesive character. Almost like living art!

Personally, I think it would be kind of cool to see mentor Michael Westmore (“The Munsters,” Rocky 2, Psycho 3, “Star Trek: Voyager”) compete in the competition as well with his daughter, host McKenzie Westmore, and judge Luis Burwell (Highlander, Braveheart, Mission Impossible, The Fifth Element) making up their team. I would love to see what all three of them have to offer, especially McKenzie!

Make sure you tune in to SyFy Channel on September 2nd at 9:00PM for “Face Off: Judge Match!” I can’t wait to see what the judges have to come up with!

  1. I have absolutely no idea who might win, I can’t even guess! I’ve seen them judge, never see their work. When I’m watching The Hunger Games, The Amazing Spider-Man, etc, I didn’t pay much attention to the make-up then. I want to say Ve-Neill will win just because I like her as a judge.
