Pass the pesticides and ice cubes! Big Ass Spider director Mike Mendez now tackling LAVALANTULA.

LavalantulaEntertainment Weekly is exclusively reporting that a new creature feature from Mike Mendez is currently filming in Los Angeles.

It’s called Lavalantula. And as you can guess, it’s about giant, lava breathing tarantulas!

It’ll be up to a rag tag group of individuals and a couple “Police Academy” cadets to stop the giant tarantulas before they destroy LA and move on to the rest of California. Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy 1 – 4), Leslie Easterbrook (Police Academy 1, 3 – 6), and Michael Winslow (Police Academy 1 – 6) are confirmed as the leading stars of the movie. They’ll be joined on screen by Nia Peeples (“Walker Texas Ranger,” “Pretty Little Liars”) and DJ Ralph Garman (“Family Guy”).

Lavalantula is directed by Mike Mendez. His last feature, Big Ass Spider, received a limited theatrical release and became a DVD best seller. His other directing credits include The Convent and The Gravedancers.

Lavalantula has an anticipated release set for the third quarter of 2015.
