It was announced yesterday that The Purge 3 is officially in pre-production.
Franchise producer Jason Blum confirmed that not only would be returning for the third film, but that writer/director James DeMonaco would be returning, too!
Blum also stated that the third entry in the Purge franchise would be a prequel and would show the revolution that leads to and includes the first Purge.
The Purge 3 is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2015.
The Purge was released in 2013. Produced on a $3 million budget, it grossed $64,500,000 in America and $25,000,000 in foreign countries. The Purge: Anarchy was released in 2014. Produced on a $9 million budget, it grossed $71,500,000 in America and $37,000,000 in foreign countries.
“In the near-future, all political movements have been shut down by the government and they control under a strict totalitarian rule from the “New Founding Fathers of America”, making the unemployment and crime rate to be drastically reduced to only 1% and the economy at an all time high. After the 28th constitutional amendment was ratified, the Annual “Purge” Event was created. The Purge is an event occurring every year from 7:00 PM on March 21st till 7:00 AM on March 22nd. During that time, any known crime is legal, and all services (police, fire department, hospitals and emergency rooms) are closed. It is said to act as a catharsis for the citizens, but in reality, used as a method of artificial population control, the poorer and homeless people are the main targets.”
