After months of waiting to see footage from Potent Media’s Sugar Skull Girls, the moment has finally arrived!

Judging from the first trailer unleashed on YouTube today, it looks like the new movie from Christian Jude Grillo is going to be absolutely wicked. The director and co-founder at Potent Media is known for making last year’s scifi-thriller, Apocalypse Kiss, as well as one of the most depraved movies of 2012, Deer Crossing. This time, however, Grillo is going a completely different route and is in post-production for his latest feature, Sugar Skull Girls, which has a target audience of children, tweens, and young teenagers. It’s almost like – dare I say it – The Wizard of Oz for a new generation. It just looks like a genuinely good time.

Potent Media’s Sugar Skull Girls is written and directed by Grillo. It stars Addy Miller (“The Walking Dead”), Carmela Hayslett (Death Follows), Cece Hagen, Isabella Sobejano, and Anika Buchanan. It will also feature appearances from John Amplas (Creepshow, Day of the Dead), Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes, Weird Science), and Leslie Easterbrook (The Devil’s Rejects, Rob Zombie’s Halloween). Randy Memoli and myself have small roles in this feature, too!

In the film, “Three demonic sisters who resemble neo-goth voodoo dolls are accidentally conjured from the other side during a failed attempt to raise a little girl from the dead. With impeccable fashion sense and teen aged angst, the Sugar Skull Girls will stop at nothing to escape the clutches of The Pale Witch, the ruler of The Shadow world.”

Follow this film on Facebook and keep your eyes glued to HorrorSociety.com as I will be keeping fans updated on this title as it nears release in the coming months. And for now, take a look at the first trailer below!
