How’d ‘The Woman in Black 2’ Do on Opening Night?

The Woman in Black 2 Angel of Death 2This one surprises me! I was pretty sure this movie was going to be dead on arrival. Glad to see I was wrong.

Early reports are starting to trickle in and some sources are estimating that The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death made $7,750,000 in ticket sales during its opening night on Friday. This is already way above the first week predictions that were being reported, and it looks like a sequel was probably warranted for once.

Other titles at the box office – The Hobbit 3, Into the Woods, Gone Girl, and Night at the Museum 3 – will probably keep The Woman in Black 2 from reaching the top spot, but I think it’s a safe bet that this movie will come in 5th place by the end of the week. Not to shabby considering the first film came out in 2012 and the new sequel is void of Daniel Radcliffe. For comparison, The Woman in Black made $8,332,000 in its opening night and The Woman in Black 2 is estimated to have grossed $7,750,000.

While this title has had a great start up, it’s going to need strong word of mouth and excellent reviews (which it is getting) to help its longevity. So, why don’t you read HorrorSociety’s interviews with cast members Phoebe Fox and Jeremy Irvine, and the film’s director Tom Harper Reminisces. Then head out to theaters this weekend and see the movie for yourself!
