Blu Review – Shockwaves

Blue Underground is a company that I truly respect when it comes to horror releases.  They dig in deep and find films that horror fans want to see and give them those films.  Recently, they released the sleeper hit Shockwaves on blu.  I personally really enjoy that film and they were kind enough to hook me up with a review copy of that release.

My blu reviews focus on three aspects: the artwork, film quality, and special features.

The artwork used for this release is the same as the one used on their DVD release and that was a very good decision on their part.  This artwork is a variant of one of the original posters used for the film.  The artwork is a perfect description of the film and has an amazing optical illusion on it.  For a horror film this is utterly amazing and Blue Underground made a great choice in choosing this one.  However, fans that have their original DVD release may find this pointless.

The film quality in this one is a bit of a let down and identical to the DVD release.  It does not look like the film has been restored and optimized for the bluray platform which makes it difficult for the DVD owner to want to upgrade with a release like this.

Finally, the film has several great special features that will satisfy any fan.  This release has commentary with Ken Wienderhorn, Alan Ormsby, and Fred Olen Ray.  Also have interviews with Rueben Trane, Richard Einhorn, Brooke Adams, and Luke Halpin.  Also has trailer, tv spot, radio spots, posters, and still gallery.

Overall, this release of Shockwaves is a great addition to any collection if you don’t have the Blue Underground DVD already.  It is worth a plunge if you don’t but not worth double dipping because the DVD is on the same level.

Artwork – 3.5/5
Film Quality – 3/5
Special Features – 4/5
