After the disastrous Texas Chainsaw 3D was released in 2013, fans of the iconic horror franchise kickstarted by Tobe Hooper have been wondering whether or not the franchise should continue with new, original material in the form of new film entries. It looks like the answer will come sooner than later as a prequel, currently titled Leatherface, is in the midst of pre-production. While Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) is a considered a prequel, the new film due out in 2016 will take things back to an even earlier time – when Leatherface was just a teenager.

As of this writing French directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo are tapped to direct the feature. The duo are most known for 2007’s Inside and the X is for Xylophone segment in The ABC’s of Death 2 in 2014. Seth M. Sherwood has reportedly written the script, which will be put into motion by producers Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman, and Carl Mazzacone in a joint collaboration between Campbell Grobman Films, Lionsgate, and Mainline Pictures.

Tonight sources began reporting that the first official cast member for Leatherface has been announced. This comes in the form of 21-year-old English actor Sam Strike. Strike is known for playing the role of Johnny Carter in over 122 episodes of the British soap opera, “EastEnders,” from 2013 to 2014. It’s being reported that Strike will play the role of Jackson, the teenage boy who grows up to become Leatherface and commits the dozens of murders we’ve seen in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise over the years.

More cast members are expected to be announced soon. Stay tuned as things are starting to get interesting!
